High Silicon in Toyota oil?

Greetings from a looong time lurker,

Every 80k miles I do a UOA on my van to make sure things are good. This van is my livelihood. This time it came with high Silicon. Lab says it might be because of Toyota's additives. I don't want to spend to do another UOA. My van has 163k miles now. Your opinions will be very much appreciated. Thanks

Attached is the UOA

I have also seen high silicone levels in my initial oil sample tests analysis on a 2023 Toyota A25A 4 cylinder. A reputable tribologist suggested that it could be from either the Toyota oil that was installed in the vehicle at time of purchase or possibly from gasket sealer during initial engine assembly.
But it has steadily been coming down by doing 4-5000 mile oil changes, not using Toyota brand oil and filter, and using the Valvoline Restore and Protect with a Fram Ultra filter for the last 4 ocis. That has been what has worked for me and brought the silicon level trending down. Not yet at the level that I am comfortable with, but it's going in the right direction now.

Well my van had 144,000 miles when I did this UOA

What can you us about you air filtration including what brand of filter used and when it was changed prior to this oil analysis? I know nothing of your oil's additive package but do know that I change air filters when seeing Silicon levels at half of what your UOA is showing.

5-10 ppm of Si from actual dust in the oil should be enough to cause a measurable increase in wear, so I doubt it's from dust.

The silicon in virgin oil can vary by up to 10 ppm between formulations. There's going to be some testing error as well, and the amount of silicon that leaches from sealant in the engine probably varies based on running conditions and maybe oil formulation. If the engine had any work done in the past 50k miles, that could increase the Si as well.

What's the universal average for Si on this engine?

Universal average is 23, I am at 26. Last UOA 2 years ago when I ran Mobil 1 0W-16, I was at 19

I'm not sure what the repeatability is for that element on their ICP but that isn't much to worry about - especially since it is from Blackstone.
Like I said I do the UOA every 2 years and 80k miles to get an idea my van is doing fine. First UOA showed 2% fuel, and the second one showed 26 Silicon. Not a big deal if Blackstone is not super accurate. I do these UOAs to catch coolant leaks and stuff. This van is my livelihood and I want it to last 500k miles

It is a big deal if you’re basing your opinion on the analysis. Otherwise you wouldn’t have made an account on Bitog and asked about it, would you?

The only time that Si would be considered high/an issue is posting that you have a K&N air filter with these results, then of course it would be related to the K&N. No K&N? Totally normal values in fact, these are great numbers/indicate excellent filtration 🤣

I have been using OEM all these years
