High Performance Lubricants No VII series engine oils.

Subaru owners.....hits vape.....uses RP. J/K of course! He hasn't heard of HPL on the forums/FB groups I'm sure and the group think will say one thing. It's like Liquimoly with the Euro crowd. His car will probably run it's life out on RP with no issues.
Hey now, 😉 I’ve owned 5 Subarus over the years and none of them have ever had RP. They’ve lived on T6, charcoal & yellow Pennzoil, Chevron Delo, and even some Motul Power 4100. But purple oil is a line in the sand that I will not cross!! 🤣

I gave it up years ago. The Pennzoil turned out to give equal results, was cheaper per OCI and actually comes in a size I don’t need to buy single quarts to fill the sump. No brained IMO…
VW folks still talk about/recommend in on the modern turbo'd MQB EA888 gen 3 engines...so funny.

I'm on my second and third Subaru. I had a '17 Legacy sport for 2 years and traded in for an '18 Legacy Sport (wanted Android Auto) and also bought a '19 Impreza Sport. The Legacy is used for driving kids around and to take some miles off my wife's commute so we split miles between that car and her '14 CR-V. My Impreza was bought to replace an old B6 A4 that had 200k on it. I use it for gigs and I smoke cigars in it. I was also using it for commuting to work when I actually had to go in the office.

I have never used RP for no other reason than I just didn't. In my '17 Legacy I did use Amsoil SS twice before I traded it in. That car had 2 dealer changes an 2 Amsoil. Traded in with around 10k. In my '18 I have used M1 EP and now the one time change to HPL before going back to my stash of M1. My wife's car was dealer changed with M1 (assuming AFE) up to around 99k. I have used Amsoil SS twice in that car and Kirkland once before making the same one time switch to HPL. Going back to Kirkland to get through that stash. My Impreza has seen M1 EP and PUP. I don't drive the car enough to get any good mileage out of it now. I'm just about to break 15k miles. My changes are usually between 1200 and 2k miles but I have to change due to warranty. I have 3 qts left of HPL that I was going to use in that car but if I do, I have to figure out the best option of what to mix with it for the other 1.6 qts.

As a side note, my B5 S4 has seen M1, Amsoil AFL and EFM, T6 (forum guys swore by it) and Total aside from 5 or 6 dealer changes. The car is also modified as a Stage 2+ but needs at minimum 1 new turbo plus I have a pre-cat exhaust leak, need UCAs amongst other things including body work. I would love to run HPL in it after everything is all fixed and my hopeful upgrades like bigger turbos and fueling kit, BBK, bigger rims for said BBK and possibly a 6-spd swap are done. However, I have no money to do this and I still have boxes of M1 to get through. ****, I have had the 034 UCA front and rear on the shelf for 5 years and I have no idea when I'll be able to put them in. But with all that said, I can't drive it until I re-register it and have it inspected but the CEL will make inspection hard. Have 99,800 miles on it and haven't changed oil in probably 3+ years since it hasn't been driven. I think I changed it around 98k.

Sorry for the rant but I would love to use HPL in everything but sometimes it comes down to cost and benefit. When I can get PUP for $10 per 5qt after rebate and am doing 6k changes or 6 months whatever comes first I have to look at the big picture and save money especially when we are trying to save for a new house. I have no problem buying HPL once in a while though to make sure things are nice and clean but as I am under warranty for 2 of those cars I can't really extend my OCI.

Like to see a pic of that B5 S4...legendary cars as well as infamous w/r to ownership cost. I get it...I have a B5.5 Passat W8.

You don't want to see pics. It's a sad sight at the moment. Cracked front bumper, scratches all over, front drivers side seat has the foam rotting out, etc... Makes me sad when I see it so I try not looking at it. Plus every time I bring it up my wife gets pissed. She hates that I have it for multiple reason. One being that I have never let her drive it even when the turbo wasn't blown. She would have killed herself. Her previous car before the CR-V was a 2000 Civic Value Package. Going from that to a 320+ HP car with coilovers, etc... she would have crashed it. Plus, it is just sitting taking up space and will cost A LOT of money when I do fix.

Sorry to hear it - older cars like that are sad to see, I've had the same experience when I was younger with my first car/project...I went away to college and it basically fell apart in my mom/dad's driveway. At some point you move on/accept that it may never get done.

That is a sad reality that I may have to face.

Back on subject, I am going to talk to my friend when the time is right and ask him if I bought it for him would he use it. Maybe my next chance to run HPL, I'll be able to get some of this stuff for myself if it is still around. I however don't know when that will be.

In the 93 240 sedan this week. Looking to extend the OCI to 8k.

I’d sample before you drain at 8k. If this oil in PCEO can last 15k+ in fleet-use EcoBoosts, I’d expect it should last more than 8k in your Volvo…
93 Volvo probably has worse ring seal and loads the oil with contaminants more quickly than modern engines.

The engine is starting out pretty clean.
Looking under the valve covers unfortunately doesn't tell the entire story. You can still have sticky and/or dirty rings. Though 8K miles isn't that bad of an OCI. I would start with a 5K OCI so HPL has a chance to clean if there is something to be cleaned, then look inside the oil filter and check if there is any debris, dirt, gunk, or slime-looking residue. If there is, don't yet extend your OCI, do another 5K, until you get a normal looking filter. Just my two pennies. ;)

My hybird calls for 0W-16 which most oils found on the shelves of discount retailers have 40°C viscosity rating between 35-38 mm²/s.
This 'No VII Series' 5W-20 PCMO is 51.
My antique Honda Insight called for green oil which is similar to a 0w8 or 12

My guess is a 5w16 would be more than adequate for both me and you if you want the best fraction of a mpg improvement.

5w20 is tempting for the Honda since I’ve only ever ran it or 0w20.

Gotta wonder, if this stuff was rated would it be an SL, SM or an SN?

API is not a rating, it's a license.

The NO-VII PCMO products would "rate" as API SP.

The NO-VII Euro products would "rate" as API SL because of higher ZDDP. Save it for the 800 ppm limit on Phosphorus that the API imposes on all motor oils from 0W-16 all the way up to 5W-30, these oils would easily pass the API SP engine testing requirements. That's why you see Euro oils like Castrol EDGE Euro 0W-30 rated as API SL. Viscosities like 0W-40, 5W-40, and up don't have the Phosphorus limitation unless they are dual rated for Diesel engines, in order to qualify for an API SP license.

Right, but API "SL, SM or an SN" is based on meeting certain test performance specifications, which could be called the overall "classification/rating" of the oil. If an oil can't meet API SP specs for instance, then it can't be rated/classified and then API "licensed" as an SP. Yeah, semantics, lol.

3 of my 4 cars can all use API SL

So Euro spec would be fine
