High Performance Lubricants Engine Cleaner

Good news - I verified that yes - using the HPL Engine Cleaner at 20% volume with our PC Engine Oils is okay and will boost the cleaning without effecting the seals - albeit at a slightly higher cost than using other oils.
I thought of doing that at some point to accelerate cleaning the baffle plate and fill port area on my 1NZ-FE. The amount of varnish removal is super slow because its deposits formed from oil vapors by previous oils of many years and that it has pretty much no active oil flow as well in that region. Good to know its safe to do that combination fill of HPL oil and EC.

The varnish is easily wiped off with a finger near the fill cap thread neck to reveal bare metal but still has a bit of layering to it last time I inspected my oil fill port. Betting more on time and patience to see it through than accelerating it.

I did 2 rounds of EC30 in my daughters CRV. Currently 1200 miles on this OCI with a frankenbrew but one is HPL PCMO 5W-30. 1.5qts PP 5W-30, 2.5 qts PP Euro L 5W-30 and 1qt HPL PCMO 5W-30, XG7317. I'm ok with how this looks for being clean since CRV has almost 234k on it. As '53 Stude said, both clean.

Then through the oil cap before EC30 started and 3 days ago with the frankenbrew. Slow and steady works for me.

I posted the filter C&P in the filters thread from the 2nd round of EC30 in the CRV. No filter media cut apart yet but lots of little bits in the bottom of can after sitting for past 2 months. This is from a 232k Honda 2.4L that doesn't burn or leak any oil 🤞.

I continue to use HPl EC or Rislone and every oil change my filters look like this. One one vehicle I am on the 10th OCI (3K OCI) and still getting carbon like this. I will continue to use until I don't get carbon.

Reason I used Rislone was it was cheap and could be found anywhere, I do prefer HPL and with the recent increase in Risolones price, I will use HPL exclusively.

What Oil are you using and maybe what you are seeing in your Oil Filter is Normal. I have a hunch that you are not using Mobil 1 FS 0W-40

ask @OVERKILL about how “clean” his motor was after running Mobil 1 it’s entire life. off the shelf oil isn’t remotely close to HPL products.

I have no desire to ask Overkill about his use of Mobil1 since I have seen what he posted. I will say that HPL's Oils are probably the best, but oils like Mobil 1 FS 0W-40 and the Mobil 1 ESP line are fairly close. If you are talking remotely, then it would be some Walmart Super Tech Oil.

even supertech isn't bad, it's hot running engines, bad designs, or bad maintenance that cause carbon or sludge.

My car is running pretty clean before running HPL oils, which before I did annual engine flushes with BG EPR.

This was what the filter caught at the end of Engine Cleaner 30 oil service.

And this is what HPL oil left in the oil filter running their PCMO for 5630 miles

Much more was picked up by the oil, I'm about 2K miles away from 10K to pull the next filter.

I agree. My 02 Toyota Corolla had a bad piston design and it was well known it was going to use oil.
I had an Sentra too, used oil.
But, I will say the products coming out now are far more scrutinized due to the internet.. So, manufacturers of engine additives, and oils need to have their A game prior to launching a product claiming miracles.

run your M1 to 30k miles and i’ll believe that.

If you look at my other posts, I am maintaining 3 vehicles for others, that were neglected in their earlier lives, a 3.7L acura that was sludged and varnished up, 2 4.3L DI Chevy Silverados that were used as fleet vehicles.

My own vehicles are spotless but I still run the cleaners while going through my hoard of oil I got on clearance to keep my engines spotless.

I can tell this about HPL oils. (Not the cleaner) Wife's car would turn the oil dark almost instantly in the first 500mi run of an oci.
DId it with any oil I used. After (2) oci of 3000 to 4000mi with HPL (on the 4th oci with HPL now) it now stays clearer looking for over 2000mi to 3000mi now. Of course it turns darker since this is one of the tiny 1.5 turbo engines. But I have seen a definite change in the oil enough to make me suspect just the use of the HPL oils has actually cleaned some stuff out of there. I will keep using it and hope to see it continue to stay clearer with each run.
