Only stations that carry 91 Octane or less have ethanol premium as shown by these photos.

On previous tanks of fuel in the Caravan I filled up at only stations with 91 octane where they only carried 91 or less.

Tonight I refueled with 91 octane but at a station that has up to 94 octane and here are the results.... (The last picture shows 2.5% Ethanol, sorry I know it's hard to read)

That makes sense because to get the 91 octane at a station that has 94 (which only comes with ethanol in it), they will mix 94 with 87 octane in order to acheive that 91 rating. But at stations with 91 as their top premium, that fuel can be ethanol free as it won't be mixed with any 94 at all.

For sure.

Ironically, our Husky/Mohawk stations here have E0 91 and also have a 94 with ethanol. So, they have three grades, regular, midgrade, 91 E0, and the 94. Years ago, before the ethanol mandate, there was E0 87, midgrade with ethanol at the same price as 87, and a 92 premium with ethanol. They were successfully marketing ethanol blends all on their own, and it worked better for the consumer, too.

I'm glad I have a scan-tool and I can see what's in my tank.

When I last checked their website, Husky was pretty upfront about which fuels had ethanol and where. Of course, back then, before the mandate, the web was much less of an option.

Wow. It sucks that the Petro Canada right around the corner on my drive home has the 94. I also topped up my tank of 87 from just under 3/4 to full with 94 octane when I started to notice some light pinging since I hooked up the heat riser for the winter.

The pinging seems to be gone now but you'd think with what we pay for the 94 they could leave our the ethanol. I'm just going to run esso 91 from now on to prevent carburetor issues from ethanol, and I get pc points at esso now.

Surprised the ethanol content is only 2.5%!! Is that the typical % content we find in most ethanol fuels? I would expect to see closer to 10% as labelled on the pumps.

It can vary (up to 10%), but keep in mind I had over 1/4 tank of 0% ethanol blend already in the tank with this refill of Ethanol blended fuel so it skews the total it's showing.

I'm curious, how did you test it?

I have a test tube that is calibrated. You put a certain amount of water then add gas to a certain level. Shake it up and if the water level increases, it has ethanol in it.
