How are they a bad filter? Have we ever seen a torn one on here? Is the efficiency poor? Has anyone posted pictures of separated end caps?

the only failure ive seen was a larger fram collapsed a few years ago. but we look at them as say they are trash. he had a good point. he ran them in his cars and trucks for decades and the engines never failed. thats hard to argue.
that being said my confidence in motorcraft and Purolator and bosch is now shaken. they were my prefered filters.
next, you guys will tell me the fram ultra is trash and wix went to crap. i kight as well just run st ecores from now on. haha
To the OP is the chain slap during idle ? Or only when you acc ?
Same with MCFL820s , latest update label doesn’t seem to having any issue beside the sicilone adbv still have some cut
I cut 2 lastest one and 1 was unknown miles . Second one was 4K miles . No tearing issue . This is my very own filter .
When it sits, on a cold start, used to only get bad after 3 days or more, then the XG2 on it drained back after only 3 hours. I had a couple FL820Ss sitting around, I figured, why not? Less than half the price of the Ultra, they seem to do better in the drainback department. Haven't heard timing chain vs. aluminum front cover yet!
And, I'm not the biggest Ford fan (due to mucho junk Transit 250s & E-vans), but I wish I had a company vehicle drive as well as my MGM does (other than the horrible start up noises).
Well what you can say is the one(s) you cut aren’t torn. Nobody really knows if the issue of torn filters has been corrected. Like I’ve mentioned here before it’s a lot easier to show something exists rather than to prove it does not exist.
There hasn't been a whole lot of the "newer" Motorcraft F820S filters cut open and posted here. Need more examples before any "conclusions" are drawn. It would be good if Motorcraft actually addressed it and made the FL820S as good as most of their other filters that don't show a history of tearing media.
Well I don’t go by what peoples say any more . I saw it tear with my own eyes and the media was very easy to tear and stop using it . Lately 2021 last 2 I cut all perfect and the media was a lot more solid.
I suggest peoples start to cut their filter and go from there . Don’t believe what other say . Fram ultra made my 5.4l start up rattle . But not the MC FL820s . So I chose the FL820s. Mobil 1 oil filter is also quiet too .

Cut one open and see it for yourself lol . I will cut every FL820s I use from now on and post it here until they no longer made FL820s lol. My thread will alway live .
Time will tell, but one or two cut open that were not torn is not a "conclusion".
Conclusion for me !! I am the ONLY one who make the conclusion for me . Only thing I can say to EVERY one is “ USE IT AND CUT ONE “ YOURSELF “ is the best and only way to get the true . Stop listen to these old rumor . Yes it tear before because I cut one . But not lately since new label .
I think it's a shame really. I wanted to like the FL820s, it is inexpensive, easy to find, and has the thread end bypass that is preferred.
It has the potential to be a great filter if just a couple details were addressed.
1. Debur the baseplate and punch nicer holes so the ADBV doesn't get cut.
2. put a few extra inches of media in the filter, 3 or 4 extra pleats would take care of that wide pleat issue that seems to be a factor in pretty much all the tear issues. Maybe change the composition of the media so it is a little stronger and tear resistant, may not even be necessary with proper pleat spacing, but probably still a good idea.
3. Improve your glue potting process so the metal endcaps are bonded properly and don't fall off.
I really think they would have a great filter here, if they just made a few minor tweaks to this product. Thus far, they just seem bull headed to make the needed changes.
If these product improvements were made, I would happily run them on my truck again.
