I think he means the oil will have the highest wear materials because the egine is new. Not that Subaru has grit in the oil from Subaru.

Sorry, you're not BITOG material, members here check oil every other day to at least once a week... A few have wiped so much oil on their dipstick cleaning rags they had to add... Really!!!

Ok, thanks for the clarification.

OP, you have committed a great sin.

However, you are not damed forever. You can make amends for the Sin.

Next 5 oil changes are to be with M1 0W40 or Castrol 0W40 (assuming Subaru allows this, if not use use whatever synthetic oil you can) Do a shorter than recommend OCI. This will set you back in good standing before the sin took place. All is now reconciled back to how it would have been...

Carry on

You should be fine.

Back in 1996 I had a 5.7L engine replaced in my chevy truck. The dealer told me to go 7500 miles before my first oil change. Noting that the assembly/break in lubes were there for a reason. I did so, and proceeded to change the oil every 3000 miles for the next 250,000 miles before selling the truck.

Yup, you'll be fine.

savvy in looks only? My bank is the same way regarding alerts for low balance in one of your accounts with high debt/credit activity. And even with alerts on, it's not enough alerts cause sometimes you need more of them with neon laser lights in all caps colored font. Despite even alerts, I didn't transfer the additional funds from my "money market" (think: high balance) account to savings so alerts isn't a guarantee either per se. Now either you did really well or hardly anything of it cause it is virgin oil right? the stuff with the debris? You might have done really well and have a factory anomaly brew ha ha ing.

I would get a UOA with TBN. For the same cost of the oil change skipped you will know the gravity of your mistake. Most likely it won't be bad. For a non car person like yourself when you're wondering years later about trading it in or keeping it you won't make a decision based on an unknown event. I can see this being something that would stand out in a person's mind later on.

You are fine, just change the oil.

My '14OB has a 7,500 interval, in 2015 Subaru reduced the miles per oil change to 6,000 (for the same engine) because some of the FB motor can sip a little oil and it was freaking folks out who saw the low-oil light. This motor does NOT have direct injection so I am less worried about fuel dilution. Because Subaru requires Syn, going to 10K will likely be perfectly fine.

Don't add additives, don't add 0w40, don't do anything other than new oil/filter. A UOA might allow you to sleep better but likely the oil will "fine" with active TBN from thee result.

9500 miles on a factory fill. Honestly all a UOA is going to do is probably show high wear metals which were left in the engine a long time, and cost you money. Other than that and possibly getting yourself upset I see no benefit. Change the oil, set up the "reminders", and implement the old fool proof way of knowing when to change your oil, a window sticker.

As someone else said it is water under the bridge and nothing can be done about it. I'm sure there are a lot of cars on the road today that went longer than that on the factory fill. Enjoy the ride, there's nothing else you can do.

Exactly! I was going to post something to that affect but you beat me to it.
One UOA is essentially useless and can possibly make the already afraid OP, even more stressed about the readings he does not fully understand.

+2.

So true. Sometimes we get consumed with this stuff, me included.

+2 to this. Very good point. Very good.

I agree that it's not worth getting a uoa. In the past, Idemitsu did add very high levels of moly and ZDDP to the factory fill oil, but those levels have seemed to have dropped off in the past year or so with the exception of the STI.

Different engine, but people here have run conventional in an n/a EJ engine for 8,000 mile intervals and synthetic for 12,000 mile intervals.

A uoa with TBN will tell you if the oil is spent, but you won't be able to do anything about it.

The most important thing IMO is that the oil level remained full. If you didn't check it at all, hopefully the low oil light would have worked correctly!

The engine will probably be just fine. The real casualty may be your warranty if a) anything goes wrong and b) Subaru decides to be fussy.

I kept my FF for 5k in my previous DD so to me, 9k although extreme is still FF and not regular oil. Since I bought my current daily after 1 owner, other then no leaks and good maintenance, I have no idea how long the FF was in there but judging from the lack of fluids on the grounds (other then A/C condensation in the summer), I just don't see any damage resulting from this FF which I prefer to leave in for 5k+. I would rather "mistakenly" leave the FF in longer then regular oil so to me, it's a wash!
