I'm in my early 40's and had my first ever eye exam last week. Was told I have 20/15 but was guaranteed I'll need reading glasses eventually. Can see distant objects very well, but can't hold a book up to my face to read like in years past. The O.D. wrote me a prescription anyhow. I wanna buy reading glasses online, but don't understand how to enter in the info.

I don't know much about the script, but welcome to the club. I had 20/10 vision and was told the same thing when I was in my mid 40's. The doctor did say at the time I had the best vision of anyone she ever checked that was my age. I said yea right. At about 50 I needed reading glasses, but I can still see distance extremely well. Getting old sucks.

zinnai optical has an "enter your own prescription" thing that'll prod all the right questions.

You can also get wicked cheap glasses there, but stay away from the polycarbonate lenses and get something high index.

You have a bit of an astigmatism in your right eye.

Reading glasses will help but not correct it.

Not to change the subject,
I'm no Doctor, (at least not with all the book learning), but:

When the Dr. shines a light in your eye, he's looking at the blood vessels inside the eye.

It's the only place on the human body where blood vessels can be examined without cutting into the body.

What is 'perfect' vision ? ? ?
Isn't 20/20 just what most (average) people have (without glasses) ? ? ?
A Hawk flying and looking for a mouse to catch must have better than 20/20.

This.
I have a nevus in my left eye. I went to WillsEye in 1980. Its one of the 2 places in the U.S that could deal with problem at the time. They examined my eye holding a very very bright light then they drew (using colored pencils) the nevus on paper. Thet occurred once/year for 10 to 15 years. They were concered about cancer.

Now I go to a very good Optomotrist (not an eye surgeon). He buys a new machine every 2 years to photo the retina. The detail is incredible. The nevus didn't turn cancerous and likely never will.

I would encourage to find a retinololgist and have this done at least in your 40's.

When you need reading glasses you will need prescription reading glasses. I would guess you have somewhat of a problem reading with that eye right now

I got Glasses at 40. I'm very near sighted with astigmatism. No problem reading a book, cell phone etc without glasses but I can't read street signs @50 mph.

My wife always asks me to read the fine print on food and meds. I'm consideing it a blessing since I don't need to wear my glasses to work
