So let's talk about this. Which would you use: Havoline conventional or MS5K? Can anyone confirm that MS5K still has Titanium? The VOA from 2011 showed titanium but I've read that oil companies can change formulations a bit without us knowing. Thank you in advance

As you likely noticed my string about Havoline recently and I can only imagine that you, like me are considering the two because they are value priced at your local big box store. I used MSHM in my last fill with the Altima and as I have already commented based solely on the fact that Havoline listed some valuable data about performance vs the typical marketing [censored] I am accustomed to seeing I have decided to give Havoline a try. Honestly when it comes to the conventional anymore I think they are all likely surprisingly similar. I know PYB and QSGB are big favorites around here and likely for good reason but I see great value in the marketing of exact data that I see in some of the Havoline product and with the absence of Mobil's similar data I am left to guess at its performance in the same areas or rely on reading the VOA cards and playing chemist to make up my own mind. The beauty of the API, Dexos, ACEA specs is that they are measured and oil companies should have to compete together by showing us how affective their products are agains such standards. I will get off my soap box now and allow others to make the standard this felt better or this has more of that in it comments.

Both are top quality conventional oils and I'd use either w/o hesitation but if forced to choose I'd pick Havoline.

I became a Havoline fan a few years ago when they had a load of moly...

PS: Is Mobil using Gr.II base oil in their 5K rated dino?

You took a lot of words from my mouth which is good. Yeah, the Havoline looks as good as any other conventional and being a $1~ cheaper than MS5K I may grab a jug or two and give er' a shot in the Jeep in the 10w30 flavor. Thanks for your valuable info and Happy New Year Jake777

Let me know what you think if it acts as expected or if it blows up your engine lol.... I will do the same. Have a great new year yourself.

I would lean towards the Havoline only because its just my opinion. It's really nothing too much more than that. PSD 2015 used a lot of MS5K in his fx with great results on his UOA results. So, I just like Havoline. Though I am using Mobil Super Synthetic right now and just got another special from O Reilly's for the next run. Having stated all of that... Havoline ran great in my lady's Camry. The latest PQIA test the Havoline has a good amount of molybdenum and boron. And for $13 five qt container its a very good deal.

MS5K and MSHM for me. MS5K has shown excellent UOA for conventional. 2010 FX4, now 2015 PSD had 10K runs on MS5k and it still had life left. MSHM is a synblend fwiw. I use MSHM in my Taurus and it has the engine running nice and smooth.

As said Havoline is $13 a 5 qt jug and I have picked off some of the $19 for 6 qt Havoline synthetic at Amazon. A few weeks back I grabbed a 6 pack of Havoline 5-20 HM for just over $10 shipped.

So I stocked up on it for various uses on equipment and could not yet score the 5-30 Havo Syn but plan to mix the conventional 5w-30 with a few quarts of 5w-20 syn for use in a new Ford F350 gasser- takes 7 quarts.

That Havoline conventional has a dose of magnesium in it too. Either one would be fine, but I have a long history with Havoline, so that's my pick.

Can't go wrong with either but presently running MS5K 5W30 in the Ranger and it sounds less like an agricultural piece of equipment than it did previously.
