Half of the "dumb" on BITOG

Amsoil is the best oil on the market, good for 50k OCI's.

It is a heinous war crime to use Fram filters.

Every Japanese brand car built since 1965 should be backdated to 0W20.

Once a car starts consuming oil, you can quickly move to just changing the filter, because when you are topping up the oil, you are changing the oil.

And forget your owner's manual, don't use 5W-20 if you want to "protect" your engine.

Oh, and forget about oil change intervals if you are one of the chosen few using Amsoil, Redline or Royal Purple. They just don't apply.

Acually, the order is Redline, Amsoil, and then way way later Royal Purple.

Oh, here is another assertion:

Any oil with a starburst is politically correct oil!

- OE parts should never, ever be considered. The "premium" aftermarket part is always better!

- Don't bother changing your cabin air filter. Just wash it out with soap and water.

I do like being here, but I thought it fair to "question with boldness" some of the lower-value discussions. Some folks have joined with me and added mythology of their own.

Creating a thread calling a good portion of what Bitog is about "dumb", is non-productive.

Let's not leave out a few of the newer ones:

Valvoline NextGen is clearly an inferior product because it uses 50% recycled oil and will probably ruin your engine (despite being put out by a major oil blender with a name/rep to protect and meeting current API specs).

G-Oil can't possibly be safe. To heck with the actual specs and API certs. It will bring you utter ruin.
