Haldex + Redline MT-LV GL4?

I've always cleaned the filter when servicing it, but this is not the standard dealership procedure.
If you remove the pump to do so, you're supposed to replace the o-rings on it, which are $90+ if you pay normal dealer pricing. So at a shop it becomes a stupidly expensive service to do properly, I can understand why they get sludge-y.
Yes even with the online discount at my local dealer they are just under $64 which still seems expensive. Elring sells them for less but not a lot less.

Or just FCP Euro it, I'm on I think my 5-6th Haldex kit between the Atlas, S3, and my Sportwagen. The Vaico kit even comes with a new screen/bolts for it. But yes, the o-rings/bolts thing is pretty crazy in terms of price.

Eh, not a fan of vaico stuff. They sell new genuine pumps, I'd just replace the whole thing once a year.

I suppose that's one way to do it! I've typically used the Febi/Bilstein kits and just last year tried the Vaico for our Atlas. No issues, stuff looks "normal".

Just seems to be a "regular" manual trans/gear oil would be different than a wet clutch fluid was really all. In the FB group I mod (Alltrack/Sportwagen), someone was concerned that their shop used Motul 75W90 gear oil in their Haldex...I figure they just goofed and did the r. diff but folks were losing their minds to stop driving it etc. b/c it will be damaged...based on this I'd say no, may not work correctly with an oil of that viscosity vs. what is supposed to be in it but shouldnt' damage it.
Sorry for the bump, but this sounds similar to what happened to my Volvo XC7O with Haldex.

Mechanic used Redline Differential 75w-90 instead of Haldex Fluid. I only drove the car a few miles, so I hope no damage has been done.
I plan to change the fluid out immediately with new filter. The OEM fluid was not cheap though (+$50/liter)
I'm thinking of using MT-LV GL4 for future some drain and fills..

I don't believe this will damage a thing - it's just not the right type of fluid is my guess so the friction characteristics aren't going to be where they need to be for the clutch pack. Just drain it out and fill with the factory stuff or whatever is equivalent/meets the specifications. Have you looked on FCP Euro? They have the Febi and Vaico fluids for my Gen 5 systems that are cheaper than the OEM.

He's got a filter so it's probably not gen5. The concern would be the GL-5 EP additives damaging clutches I guess? Gear oil will just be way thicker otherwise.

I got an elring set for $13. 147.480.

Someone pointed me to these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/324499347914

Probably best just to track down some generic viton o-rings, the bolts themselves don't need to be replaced each time.

Also this was a mistake, o-rings were slightly too large. Due to some mechanical and shipping mishaps I have a brand new pump and a spare. Beats dealing with o-rings for sure.

I thought I would just chip in.

I talked to redline, bugged them greatly about the Haldex compatibility in my XC-90. I drained out the excessively worn haldex fluid that was probably 150,000km old based on the receipts for the last Volvo service receipts. The fuel filter was also 15 years old and poured out black scum... Amazed it actually ran.

I drained it by the pump, cleaned the pump head and screens, changed the filter, ran it for 500km. Pulled the pump and filter again, new filter new fluid.

Put about 10,000km on the Redline MT-LV in the Haldex and it was glorious compared to the very shredded fluid that was in it. In Canada, the OEM fluid is viciously expensive. Also apparently Haldex/VW have changed the stock fluid recently-ish. The older spec fluid is a Group III it seems, the latest one from what I can gather is a Group IV/V mix, or maybe that's just an excuse to boost the price.

As for the rear of the Haldex and my angle gear, I used Amsoil 75w90. This time, I'm going with Motul Gear 300 75w90 in my V8 XC-90. I can't easily get Amsoil locally, as the local distributor shut their doors.

Something to consider is... There's two fills on the Haldex unit... 75w90 goes in the back, Haldex/MT-LV goes in the front.

A lot of mechanics don't even realize there's two different fills. I suspect with my XC-90 considering the gear oil in the back was fresher looking, I think the mechanic that was charging the previous owner for 'fluid' services was changing at least that. My poor angle gear though, that gear oil was completely smoked, but the ATF was relatively fresh. Then the fuel filter was a genuine Volvo unit and the last Volvo service was over a decade ago.

Oooo, thank you for that, I was looking for the pump seals, I've been reusing them but I would put silicone o-ring lube on them, and haven't had any leaks yet, but I'll order that and refresh on the change I do in the next month.

Mine's a gen 3, but that seller has the kit for doing them. I won't complain about having a filter, something they decided they could delete on the later units.

I have heard variations on this rumor via people playing the forum telephone game, but as far as I can tell, this is based on looking at old SDS for the febi (aftermarket) fluid for each spec (g055175 vs. g060175). Doesn't say anything about the OE fluid or other aftermarket options.

And if you look at those SDS you see Febi is using Grp3 for both, so it's still unclear where the rumor that one or the other is PAO/ester really started.

At like $80 CAD a liter, I hope it's at least a mix of 3/4...

But yeah, it would be interesting if the truth ever comes out.
