I just paid an indy $1100 to have the rear evaporator replaced on my 2007 Grand Caravan. tonight I find out that there is a secret warranty. grrrrrr!!!!! any chance chrysler will reimburse? no, I dont want a lecture on "you should have had dealer repair it....". for years I had dealer repair... but the two local dealers are not very impressive. liars, con artists, etc.

If there is a repair program, I'd push the issue at the dealership and at whatever regional management I could reach. I'd try to leverage the trade-in idea since your car is about the age where they want you to get a new one...

Yes, there is a "secret warranty" on the rear evaporator assemblies, for corrosion. Some owners got notifications in the mail, and some did not. I did not receive one on our '07 T&C, even though our VIN fell in the range.

I would contact the local dealer, and if that isn't fruitful, try Chrysler Corporate.

The dealer has no say whatsoever. Don't waste your time.

Go straight to Chrysler customer assistance. I doubt they'll help, but it can't hurt to try.

If your indy garage does any volume of work on minivans, he already knew about the warranty coverage before he did the repair for you. Guaranteed.

Good luck.

It might be too old to be relevant but a number of years ago, my brother was able to get reimbursed for a headgasket repair on his Neon that was performed by a local mechanic.

Years ago I had an indy repair a broken head bolt in my Chevy Celebrity, then found out there was a TSB/secret warranty on faulty fasteners. I got GM to reimburse me all but $100.

As others have said, the dealer is likely to shut you down immediately and you have to go over their head. You have to grow some family jewels and be VERY assertive (positive force, not negative or combative). They are experienced in overwhelming you to defeat.

Somebody here said they recently got Chrysler to pay for their rusted strut towers, so maybe the new Chrysler has changed. https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/bad-strut-mount-tower-need-help.145046/

In Michigan, we have auto/lemon law lawyers that would take on the case for only $200 up front (if they are confident in winning) and they would bring the mfg. to their knees (from early Neon experience).

Off topic, but I've had 3 great Caravan's over the past 20 years until the tranny puked last fall. Between a daughter's Neon and Sebring, and my current Caravan, I will drop Chrysler due to their very poor customer follow up care....nothing close to the Toyota Tundra program. Rant over.

We really loved our two Chrysler minivans, but it was Chrysler Corporation's treatment of us that pushed us away. They had the ability to make us a believer and keep a customer, but they chose not to do it. Shame, really.
