GTX Full Synthetic appears to be replacing GTX Magnatec (per marketing material)

I wonder what Edge has that gives it "engine performance" over Magnatec? More anti wear additives maybe?
I can't speak for today, but a few years ago, looking at VOAs for both Magnatec and Edge of the same era and the same market (USA). The Edge had Titanium (fluid strength technology - whatever that means) as an additive, but Magnatec did not. That's one difference a cheap VOA showed.

But who knows, there are many other things that a VOA can't see. Maybe Edge has some PAO, maybe Edge uses more expensive and shear stable VII polymers. I don't know, but Castrol does defend it as their better product.

It's probably why I like to follow the standards the oil can achieve. One of my favourites is Edge 5W30 A3/B4 as it carries BMW LL-01 and MB 229.5 which are two very tough specifications.

Someone will probably have to do another cheap VOA on the Full Synthetic name replacing Magnatec. Be interesting to see what's in it. I know that magnatec did add titanium to the mix at some point. Great points @SR5 (y)

Magnatec > dino
Nothing super special about it. It's up there with bunch of other less expensive "syn" oil. I like the 10W-30 low Noack however.
When I bought gtx magnatec 10W-30 Full Synthetic it was $19.xx at Wal-Mart. I now rather pay $3-4 more and get M1 EP or M1 FS Euro. Me thinks:
M1 EP & M1 Euro are much > Magnatec

Prices were as of last year since I haven't bought oil recently except some Kirkland 5W-30.

Local walmart was stocked up about two weeks ago , last time I was in there. I sent a email to Castrol asking them if anything still included "intelligent molecules" , never got a answer.

I finally received a reply from Castrol.

Thank you for contacting Castrol North America.
We apologize for the delay in our response.
Castrol GTX FULL SYNTHETIC is replacing Castrol GTX MAGNATEC to align with GM’s latest generation of GM-certified engine oil, GM dexos™1 Gen 3.
Castrol GTX FULL SYNTHETIC and Castrol GTX MAGNATEC are very similar formulations, with very similar properties and the GTX FULL SYNTHETIC product also contains the intelligent molecule like GTX MAGNATEC that protects the engine from start-up.
Castrol GTX FULL SYNTHETIC has been designed to meet the needs of today’s advanced engine technologies and to help extend engine life by fighting the impact of severe driving conditions. It provides the same outstanding wear protection of GTX MAGNATEC plus superior sludge protection that exceeds the industry standard.
Castrol GTX FULL SYNTHETIC is available in SAE 0W-20, 5W-20, and 5W-30 grades.
Castrol always recommends following the guidelines of the engine manufacturer for the recommended oil (i.e., SAE grade, API rating and manufacturer specifications) specific to your application. This information can always be found in the owner’s manual or by contacting the manufacturer directly. Before using any lubricant, ensure that the lubricant product specifications meet or exceed the lubricant specifications required by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for that specific use.
Thank you again for contacting Castrol, we value your patronage!

Didn’t SP magnatec have titanium at least in a 20wt according to pqia. Does 30wt not have titanium?

Refer to post #48:

" ... and the GTX FULL SYNTHETIC product also contains the intelligent molecule like GTX MAGNATEC ... "

what a relief!
I will sleep better. 🙃
Except is there only 1 molecule or more?
Breeding intelligent molecules is really expensive, so to keep costs down they've had to limit it to one per quart.

@Link

Q: Can add packs vary for the same oil but different weights?

A: Yes they can, but often they don't, as the add pack is developed as a matrix solution. All oil grades together, to save development costs.
