I got some contacts from Molakule. But that did not help me much. I am writing this article for a leading newsletter in the lube industry. I am trying to observe the trends in pricing in synthetic and mineral based lubes and trying to correlate them to the oil prices.

My only suggestion would be to contact the media departments of the larger oil companies like Shell, XOM, ConocoPhillips, and maybe someone like Valero.
I don't know of anyone personally that would have that kind of information.

You only said you were looking for base oil prices for a paper.
LubesnGreases (LNG Publishing) has a one or two page article each month on base oil trends.
You have mineral oils, PAO's, AN's, Esters, and bio oils. For bio-oils one would have to contact people like ADM, CRODA, Arizona Esters, etc. But as a technical writer I am sure you how to do Internet searches already.
