Got honked at for stopping at a red light 😂

Two days ago, wife and I are doing 10 km/hr over the 60 km/hr posted limit. A newer Suburban passes us on a double solid line when an oncoming car comes around the curve ahead. Suburban driver doesn’t hit his brakes and pull back behind us, but pulls into our lane. I have to nail the brakes and drive onto the shoulder or there would have been a collision.
I don’t understand how driving like that can make any kind of sense to anyone.

They hate their BIG fancy SUV so much, they have to speed to get to their destination so they can get out ASAP.

Not true if we are both stopped and yielding to traffic.

"First to stop is first to go" is not the law. It is a result of the law: the other car can proceed before I can because he got there first and I am required to stop. If we have both already stopped, and have been, it doesn't apply. The one turning right has right of way because straight > right > left, not because straight traffic goes first. Show me proof this is not the case in any of the 50 states; you won't find any.

I've checked. So far no states I have checked explicitly states the right-turner gets right-of-way over the left-turner who was at a 2-way stop sign so if you can find where the law states your case, please share.

That is what I always thought, 2 way, 3 way, 4 way - first arrived, first to leave. If you arrive at the same time right of way applies?

Perhaps its state by state?

Most state laws are written or close to:

"(625 ILCS 5/11-902) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-902)
Sec. 11-902. Vehicle turning left. The driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is so close as to constitute an immediate hazard, but said driver, having so yielded may proceed at such time as a safe interval occurs."

There are no laws about two-way stop signs and I have not been able to find any official sources that state what to do in a two-way stop, only four-way stops which clearly state FIFO, or the right-most vehicle goes first if they stop at the same time. IMO, FIFO is the safest option if traffic has cleared up considering how often that is followed.

There is a busy, awkwardly designed intersection in an adjacent town to us. It has multiple signs that say "No Right Turn On Red" - as well as a crossed out red right turn arrow light for the non-English speakers. It's as clear as day yet people do it anyway, tourists I presume. No excuse. Obey the signs and life will be good.

When someone does turn right on red they find themselves stuck in the middle of the intersection with cars coming at them from multiple angles. I laugh because you can see their heads swiveling back and forth in terror, as if they're being dive bombed and bracing for impact, unable to move their vehicle an inch because there's no place to go. Watching them stuck in the middle of that intersection makes me laugh every time. Idiots.

4 way stops, driver on right goes first if two cars stop at same time, otherwise FIFO. That makes sense because in that scenario, only one driver has the right away because the others have not completed their stop yet. There is no ambiguity.

Where are you getting your information? Right of way laws are followed in the case of two drivers stuck on opposite sides, both yielding to oncoming traffic. If he gets there first, and traffic is clear, he goes first because that means I've yet to complete my stop. No ambiguity here either. If we're both stopped waiting for traffic, right away rules apply.

Look for the left turn section. One way stop, two way, doesn't matter.

My wife explained 4 way stops like this:
If the perfect woman, perfect man, Easter bunny, and Santa all stopped at the same time - who goes first:
The perfect woman bcs there is no such thing as … (you know) 😷

Agree, and when a lane splitter gets scramble egged all over the pavement, it was all their choice.
Lane splitting is stupid and dangerous for everyone on the road. Period. Plain and simple.
My opinion on lane splitting is "it depends". It should be used with the best judgement of the rider. I could have lane split when I rode a motorcycle back in the day, but I did the opposite. I treated myself like a car and tried to stay as visible as possible. Drivers are crazy.

Exactly right. I rode a Harley for years. Never would do that. I don’t get it at all.

My mother was a little preoccupied with social class back in the 80s, and she bought a book on it. I later picked it up and read it at some point when I was bored. It was a very interesting read. First nugget was that social class was not aligned to wealth, as it was generally thought to be. In fact, those in higher class thinking tended to drive normal, average, or even older vehicles that they liked, and could generally afford to fix them. Average Buicks, Oldsmobiles, fords. Those concerned with reliability, the accord and Camry crowd, generally fell into the middle class. Regarding driving, it was noted that upper class mentality did not own the road or drive aggressively or fast - the study found that they left earlier for their next location. That left a mark on my thinking.

Glad I'm not the only one who witnesses bad driving. It's pretty much the norm around here. Self-entitlement and lack of awareness on so many levels.
Speaks one hundred percent as a reflection of today's society. I often think of how well traffic would move if everyone was just 5% more considerate towards each other. (This includes merging onto the freeway also.)

There are those that want to de-fund the police... I only wish there were more cops on the roads these days. Honestly, they would be as busy as %$*^&$ with all these idiot drivers. Cash Cow waiting to be harvested. Sadly, many people only respond to the law. (If they are caught.)
So many try to run from the cops. My buddy has his police scanner on all the time and he's always hearing chatter from high speed chases...it happens almost every day now. Most of these idiots don't have a valid driver's license, a valid registration, or insurance, or none of the three. I say the state should start permanently confiscating these people's vehicles. Taking their license, or giving them tickets doesn't do any good, they continue to drive anyway. They can't drive a vehicle they don't have...

Tailgating ,left on red, stop sign, what stop sign? Just run it.Absolute insanity on the roads atleast in my area.
Our city does absolutely zero traffic law enforcement, so you can imagine how drivers react to that. Our city streets are literally a free-for-all...
