Got honked at for stopping at a red light 😂

I often think of how well traffic would move if everyone was just 5% more considerate towards each other. (This includes merging onto the freeway also.)
About the only time I get upset with people is if they break normal traffic rules out of pure ignorance. That causes accidents and can get people hurt or killed.

Today I pulled up to an intersection that had stop signs going one direction (on both sides), with the other direction having the right of way (state highway). I pulled up to the stop sign, intending to make a right hand turn. There was a small pickup on the other side also stuck at a stop sign, attempting to turn left (same direction as I). We were both yielding to traffic for a good 30 seconds, he was there first.

When traffic cleared, I proceeded to make the right hand turn as I had the right of way. He/she ignorantly turned same time as I did. So I hugged the shoulder (so he wouldn't hit me), stomped on it to get ahead and waved the one finger salute. Sorry, not sorry. If they keep driving that way and don't learn from mistakes, they're going to hurt someone eventually.

Same goes for merging. By the time you're nearing the end of the on-ramp you should be going near or at the highway speed unless something prevents you from merging (stuck traffic, both lanes used, etc.) It never ceases to amaze me how many people I get stuck behind going 35-40 at the end of the onramp and either jut ahead of vehicles causing them to brake, or they stop at the end of the onramp when they could have merged gracefully if they were at speed.

I hate driving in cities for for these very reasons; the draconian use of red light and speed cameras that cause some drivers to cautiously stop on yellow only to risk being rear-ended by drivers wanting to run a yellow. Even making a right turn and especially a left turn and have a light turn from green to red on you and not knowing if the red light camera set up for the other direction would erroneously snap your pate because you are on in the intersection when light is red.

When I drove in Ontario recently for my two weeks vacation, it was stressful to say the least. Fortunately, Canadian drivers are much better than an average American drivers and I didn’t get honked at for stopping on red and not fully understanding if it was lega to make right turns on red since they have multiple signs to tell when when it is not legal but not everyone maybe aware of them due to smaller signs and not so obvious location placements.

While I was in Buffalo, NY I was almost rear-eded twice for slowing down on yellow to stop at intersections with red light cameras.

Yes, this is what I meant about merging. Traffic on the freeway shouldn't have to brake to let you in.... People need to step on it!! Ugh....
I suppose this is the world we live-in. Out here in AZ.... NO Driver's Ed. Zero training. I remember sitting in classes for two weeks when I got my license.
Now??? You take a breath and they give you a license.

Whoever got there first had right of way. Shows in the Kentucky's safe driving tips pamphlet.

I just avoid eye contact and let it pass. Kinda like gas. :p
My mom always got so mad at my dad for glaring at people as he passed them on the road after doing something dumb. Seems the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I just couldn't resist this time.. I'm sure my mom rolled over in her grave, while my dad was also laughing.

I don’t tailgate, and like to leave enough room for safe stopping distance and to see the road ahead.
Tailgating (within a few feet) is typical here. I do the speed limit or a bit over to stay with traffic flow. However, well over the speed limit is the norm, even on residential streets.
I’ve gotten used to it, but keep the headrests adjusted properly and figure my car is going to be hit from behind next time I have to nail the brakes.

Not true if we are both stopped and yielding to traffic.

"First to stop is first to go" is not the law. It is a result of the law: the other car can proceed before I can because he got there first and I am required to stop. If we have both already stopped, and have been, it doesn't apply. The one turning right has right of way because straight > right > left, not because straight traffic goes first. Show me proof this is not the case in any of the 50 states; you won't find any.

So the car going straight gets to go first, then right then left?

Except when it's a traffic signal. Usually what happens is the signal turn green for people turning left and I end up turning right at the exact time it turns green for them and they get pissed off. Exactly what I was trying to avoid until Mr impatient lost his cool for not rolling through the red

Yeah, I have too many stories of poor drivers who've flipped me off or honked their horn repeatedly at me for doing the right thing because it didn't benefit them.

The most recent car honking that I received was...
a guy behind me who wanted to turn right on red when in fact, the lane I was in offered a choice of going straight(which I was doing), or turning right, which he wanted to do. So, he kept honking his horn at me because I wasn't turning right on red so that he could proceed to do the same.

Or those drivers who cut you off and then, flip you off!

FWIW, motor vehicle fatality rates are a bit higher now than they were fifteen years ago. This despite a decade and a half of improvements in vehicle safety systems.
As the old saying goes, those who seek to make something foolproof are underestimating the fools.
Discourteous, uncooperative and just plain stupid driver behavior has become so common that it's now the expected norm.

Got tooted yesterday 1/2 to 1 sec after the light turns green. Patience plz. So i drove up a steep hill with a 35 mph limit at 30 mph for about 3/4 mile. Going down the hill they would not pass when the road turned to multilane. My bald spot must be scary in the rear window.

Honked at for just driving down 94 not going 100+ MPH in the middle lane……
Ahhh. You must be on the same commute as me. Sometimes there's rookie in the left lane not on the 100mph program, so we'll have to spill over into the middle one. Not our fault you ended up in the way.

So coincidently the next light turns red and I stop in the lane next to him and give the stink eye. He's looking right back at me and motions with his body as if I give him whiplash for making a complete stop turning right on red 😂 people these days 🙄 I'm not driving his car he is. There's this one city i drive through on the way home filled with self entitled incompetent drivers. Nobody stops at stop signs anymore it seems.
I kept the window rolled up FYI. Was just seeing who it was
This actually happened to me this morning. But maybe I need to add color, in Phila. Nobody stops for red lights nor stop signs. And I'm not being facetious. So what I did was unexpected and maybe dangerous lol

I posted a while back how people rolled through a red light intersection in Delaware, turning right, no stopping. Then I found the statute says rlc cannot be used to enforce right turn violations.

Maybe not smart but when I was 19-24 or so I had fist fights related to road rage. Almost got killed once on Bruckner Blvd. in the Bronx. This is why I look at life the way I do, I'm lucky to be typing right now with some of the stunts I've pulled

If people drove like that around here they would be in jail.
