My mother was a little preoccupied with social class back in the 80s, and she bought a book on it. I later picked it up and read it at some point when I was bored. It was a very interesting read. First nugget was that social class was not aligned to wealth, as it was generally thought to be. In fact, those in higher class thinking tended to drive normal, average, or even older vehicles that they liked, and could generally afford to fix them. Average Buicks, Oldsmobiles, fords. Those concerned with reliability, the accord and Camry crowd, generally fell into the middle class. Regarding driving, it was noted that upper class mentality did not own the road or drive aggressively or fast - the study found that they left earlier for their next location. That left a mark on my thinking.
