Got Hit (Again) Yesterday

Iowa is blessed with many miles of bike trails through beautiful country. I ride on them due to how badly people drive and how glued they are to cell phones while driving. We have a lot of bro-dozers who think they are amazing drivers while looking downward at a phone.

I used to hate the road bikers who chose to ride on a narrow country road during peak traffic hours (5-6PM). In my view, that is asking to be struck and rather disrespectful to traffic flow. I’m glad I now commute on a two lane rural road that has a bike lane.

These aren’t commuter bicyclists on the highway. If they were they would be in full gear with no bags.

I’m Glad you are ok
Thank you.

Read this...I still can't figure how in the hell the guy got off. I ride about 50 miles a week. Luckily we got some pretty good county roads and not really crowded. About a year ago not far from my house and a route I usually ride, this guy runs over a bicyclist, kills him. He gets arrested, pleads not guilty, gets out on bail and then it goes to court. Facts from that court case were that the guy runs over the biker, then drives to his house, about a mile away, calls his mother (he's well into his 40's), goes back to the scene and then calls 911. Data showed that he ended a phone call 10 seconds before he hit the biker and was speeding. His father owns some businesses in town, but gets ALL CHARGES DROPPED. ***???? I still can't believe it. The biker was a well known dentist in the area.

Drivers rarely face charges for causing accidents that injure or kill people, unless they are drunk or grossly negligent. But I'm surprised that guy didn't get some penalty for fleeing the scene.

The driver who killed my brother was never even arrested. She didn't lose her license either. She turned left into him (he was coming from the opposite direction). She said she never saw him, what a surprise since she wasn't wearing her required prescription glasses. And that was over 30 years ago before people were distracted with cell phones.
