I used a Mobil 1 EP M1-101 oil filter this last change have been doing some reading and find out alot of folks are using oversized filters for various benefits. My question is this, this will be my first time ever using an oversized filter, I was wonder of 1. its safe to do so? 2. Is there any known problems with using oversized filters?
I notice the only visible difference is the 201 is longer. Thanks in advance for your advice.

1) assuming that the spec's are within norms (it doesn't have some radical bypass valve threshold). Yes. In your case, you have no bypass valve in the filter ...and burst strength is in line ..no worries.

2) Yes. If you don't really have enough room for them and they hit something like a motor mount or hang too low and scrape the ground.

Otherwise, oversize to your heart's content.

Thanks. My filter is horizontally mounted in the front of the engine. I have unlimited space. It will fit and then some.

what mileage are you getting w/ the AVEO ? Is it the sedan or 5 door hatch ? 5 speed or auto ? Like the looks of those cars , sedan kinda similar to a ECHO .

I have the new redesigned 2007 sedan with the automatic trans. Its larger than the 2006. I get about 30 to 32MPG for my regualr highway driving which include me warming up the engine before I drive it, so it would be higher otherwise. When I go out of town on trips and don't have all the warm ups that I usually do during my regular week I get about 36 to 38MPG Highway which it better than its rated for. I love this car. For such a small engine it will move.
