That’s cool. We don’t have one of those around here. We have the big 4 chain places and a few independent ones. They sell Cam2 at Dodge’s Chicken and Gas Station here I’ve never used it before.
My API doesn't market itself at all. If you see the cars driving around, odds are you got one. My API is just in a office complex next to my house (less than 1 mile) and some of them won't even sell to non-commercial customers. I might have to use one of my family member's LLCs to buy stuff from there in the future, but for now mine lets me use their guest/house account and pay cash, since no credit account.

They're pretty top notch overall, but things have been sort of weird since their merger with Advance Auto. For the most part they're the cheapest and lots of garages and even dealers use their stuff.

But for you, according to their site, zero APIs in Virginia. API was owned by Carquest, and then Carquest got bought by Advance, so now API is in its own little weird place in the world, and may even be phased out in the future, who knows.

Yeah. Here we have Federated Auto Parts and Auto Plus and the big 4 which are Advance Auto, Auto Zone, Napa and O’Reilly. We don’t even have a Pep Boys either 🙁. Federated laughed at me once when I went in there they are like who are you and I said uh I’m here to check on some parts they asked do you work for a shop that has an account? And I said no they said then get out because we don’t deal with the public. Found out that wasn’t true as they had dealt with my friend before who was just the public. I complained to their corporate even though they are an independent franchise the next week since this occurred on a Friday the manager called me and invited me to shop in the store anytime I wanted too and offered me 50% off anything on their dime. I think they threatened to drop the franchise if they didn’t serve the public I didn’t see that worker in there either ever since then.

Advance Auto Parts seems to kill every company they buy. They killed off one of America's most iconic stores, Western Auto, not too terribly long after they purchased the company. Funny because I'd much rather shop at a Western Auto than at an Advanced Auto parts. 😕

When I moved to my current house 18 years ago, I packed a couple quarts of Superflo. Forgot all about that and that Exxon doesn't sell oil any more. Under their name, at least.

The first oil I purchased with my own money was Castrol GTX 20W50, it was the name brand go-to oil back then.

They still make GTX, updating the formula to keep up with modern specs.

The most recent version is GTX UltraClean that is a semi-synthetic, and available in a number of viscosity grades.

So my old go-to is still around and yes I still buy it when it’s on sale. But not as a 20W50, more likely as a 15W40 or 10W30.

Only place I have seen Cam 2 oil of any type around here is at a couple of mom and pop convenience stores. It is usually $2.99 or so per qt. while the big chain conv. stores here (Circle K for one), sell their house brand conv. oil for $6 per qt. or more.

When I became old enough to "help" dad working on the car, was right around the time the first AutoZone opened up by us (2007 or so)

Cue father son lecture how "working on the xyz gets you away from the other half for a little while"

Everything in my signature got GTX 10w30 or 10w40, and a Fram or STP filter

If he was feeling really flush, it got a bottle of STP oil additive

I think Billy Joel put it best when he said "the good old days weren't always good, and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems"

We don't do things that way anymore...

My neighbor growing up as teenagers -- he was a big Tech 2000 fan. I myself used Exxon Superflow also. I would use 10W30 in the winter and 10W40 in the summer. That is what my Dad told me to do. Lol

Texaco Havoline SAE30 was the go to oil back in my day. For gasoline we had a Hancock station nearby that had the dial your blend octane pumps. That feature was disabled later on. The attendant was a older gentleman who had worked there from high school all the way to retirement. He loved his job.

In the office that station had the Hancock rooster sign that said “Cock O’ The Walk”.

During the rationing days he would stick around after closing and certain customers could come in and get five gallons on the sly.

Back in the 60's used to buy cheap oil in the Thriftys drug store for an old oil burning 57 Ford, can't remember the name but the cans had a headon pic of a jet fighter. ;)

Is Wolfs Head still around? I liked it but never have seen it in stores since I was a kid. I know it is one of my teachers favorite oils.
Their website is still good, but it hasn't been updated for a long time. Years ago, the coolest thing about the website was that a wolf would howl when you went to their site. Now, they don't even show where to buy it.

That is really disappointing then. That would of been so cool.
