Yes, IIRC, the .357 SIG is a .40SW case necked down to seat a .355 (9mm) bullet. Factory loads run from 1350 to 1450 fps with 4 1/2 inch barrels. The bottleneck case design helps reliability but sure makes it a pain to reload.

I do have a friend with a Glock 33 and I can tell you, when she fires that beast off it's got quite a signature flash. It would be great as a signal device at night. Firing it in an indoor range, it's very oppressive. We wear earplugs and headphones.

+1 The round has too much muzzle blast in a 3.5 in. barrel. Stick with the 9 or 40.

Thanks everyone! Yall are all 100% right. I just got back from gun shopping, and even the salesman said to stick with the 9. The 357 sig is just a 9mm casing with a larger tip,and the box of ammo is more than twice the cost. He also said the 357 sig will drop, whereas the 9mm will keep travelling. My mind`s made up,Glock 26 is is!

Get a different salesman. BOTH the 9mm and .357sig shoot the SAME size bullet. I reload the .357 sig and USE 9mm bullets.

The .357 sig will have less drop since the SAME bullet is going quicker due to the .40 S&W size case necked down to 9mm.

If you do want a Glock do get the 9mm over the .40 S&W and if you ever reload only use copper jacketed bullets unless you get another barrel. The unsupported barrels in the GLocks were one of the reasons I'm no longer an owner.

OTOH if you get the .40S&W I have 4 brand new mags I found the other day that I'll sell you!

Take care and be safe, Bill

The .357 SIG has three negatives: Deafening noise in tight quarters, blinding flash under low light conditions, and overpenetration from a long barrel (not in this case). Make that four negatives: Tempest mentions recoil. I'm not a fan unless it's always shot in daylight in isolated areas.

Here`s another one. How about the .40 Glock 27 (Bill had mentioned this one)? I just saw this one on Youtube.

I don't have a glock 27 but it seems to also be a quite popular gun because alot of people will get that and also get a 9mm conversion barrel and some 9mm mags and use either caliber when they want.

Now THAT is interesting! I had no idea you could do that.

It's possible for larger caliber guns to have conversion barrels/kits to smaller caliber guns, it's just that glocks are one of the most popular ones out there so more companies will make parts for it. You may also need to change out the recoil spring as well, but that depends on the gun if the original spring is too stiff or not.

I had a Glock 33. I was swayed by its ballistics but when practicality sit in, I didn't like spending $26 per box of 50 FMJ ammo and now I saw it the other day, it is $30. This is cheap Walmart Winchester White Box. Anyway, I sold it and got the Glock 27. I notice no difference in recoil and ammo availablity is ALOT more convienant. Honestly, unless you work for department that hands out the stuff like candy to practice with, I wouldn't do it over again. Just too expensive to shoot and I like to shoot.

I have a Sig P229 with both .357Sig and .40S&W barrels.

I happen to like the .357Sig round. I've never paid more the $20 for a 50 round box. It's certainly cheaper that say, 44Mag or 44Special and in the realm of the .357Magnum. And that's why I bought the gun. I wanted a semiauto .357.

I've read some stuff that is true and some real junk in this thread. Yes it's loud. Most any necked down round is. Comparing +P+ rounds is fine, but what if you loaded a .357Sig +P?

But for sure a longer barrel would be very nice. Honestly, the Sig P229 is a tough gun for me to shoot accurately. I'm just not great with short barreled guns.

And BTW, I HATE shooting .40S&W in my budd's Glock. Gawd what an awful combo.

Oh yeah. would I conceal carry my Sig P229? Nope.

I talked to a guy who has a good Glock collection. His favorite is the 27 (.40). There`s a mom and pop gun store/range here that will let you test any gun for $5. I think I`ll test out the Glock 26 and 27 and then make my decision.

A very good idea! As in women, cars, and whisky, there is no empirical best. What works best for me may not work well for you. Personally, I don't care for Glocks for a variety of reasons but that doesn't make it a bad firearm. Just like you should never buy a car without a test drive (not going to mention women here...)test firing a piece of equipment that you may someday bet your life on is a wise decision. Be sure to test it with a good defensive load too. Sometimes the practice ammo is not loaded as hot so there may be a difference in recoil and muzzle flash.
