Given the choice...Schaeffers vs. Amsoil??

schaeffers, i havent seen a bad uoa yet and they do have a price advantage
Tough call. You have a great oil made in the neighboring state of WI and a great oil made in the neighboring state of MO. I never let price dictate what oil I am going to use, so it just depends on what you are looking for. I must say I am trying some of the Schaeffer 5W30 in my Prius and I am quite impressed with it so for. The old butt dyno thing. Very smooth. Will be doing an analysis in 5K and I will let you know.

schaeffer's 9000 5w40 has been a winner for me in four cars.

Both are a waste of money for 5K.... unless you are first & last owner of your vehicles.
For 5K OCIs, I blend dino and synthetic roughly 70-30%.
That's what Schaeffer did, so why is it a waste.
For 5k to 7.5k I would say use the Schaeffer, but over that I would go with the Amsoil. And you are probably correct about the yellow bottle, but a little extra insurance does not hurt. Oil is cheap compaired to the engine you are putting it in.
yeah but schaeffers is a far better quality oil than basic penzoil imo.. schaeffers has PAO and etc. just go to the site and look at the series 7000 blend. plus i have seen great uoa's from that blend out to 10k miles.
That's why I said a little extra insurance does not hurt.
i wouldnt hesitate to run it 10k miles. esp for my driving conditions 85% highway 15% city, very little 4 wheeling

Schaefers offers a Group 2-Group 3/4 blend?
I never knew that.
I always thought one of the labels was group III - others higher group.
I believe the blend is Group II+ and PAO. At least that's what the spec sheets use to say.
i tend to favor amsoil, but only because i'm more familiar with it.
Both are good products.
I have used both extensively and both are top-notch. If you are the kind of fellow that just can't bring yourself to run an oil at least 10K miles then Amsoil isn't cost effective(at least to me). I think some of Amsoil's oils are the best choise IF you plan to stretch the intervals out to 10-15K miles.
I change the oil in all my personal cars at intervals of no more than 10K. I think at 10K mile intervals Schaeffer can't be beat when you look at the cost of the oil for what you get. How many oils can you buy today for around $4qt that can run out to 10K with sweet UOAs? Not many for sure.
No need to fuss about which is best. They are both at the top of the heap!
