1.5L GDI Turbo

Currently using M1 EP but have heard good things about PUP as well. I’ve peeked at the data sheets and see a few differences but curious if anyone can point out more from VOA or UOA or maybe personal experience using

M1: higher CST @40 - 58.7 vs 56.3 PUP
Higher flash point 235 vs 203

PUP: higher CST @100 10.3 vs 10.1 M1
Pour point -48 vs -33 M1 (both fine for my climate)

The PDS does not go over additives and I’m curious if one would be better than the other for my engine. Both are comparably priced and available at Walmart and while I’ve had no qualms with M1 for the last two decades I wouldn’t be opposed to trying PUP given it’s rather good reputation

The M1 5W30 I is a longer drain oil (up to 20K miles) versus the PUP 5W30 . Having a turbo GDI engine your OCI’s will be on the shorter side so having a long drain oil won’t matter . The M1 EP has a robust add pack and is available in stock on the shelf at WM for $26 - I never see PUP in stock and doubt you will ever see it for the price you can buy M1 EP.

Use an oil that has demonstrated performance via an approval such as VW 504 00 or BMW Longlife-04. You can get them at Walmart for less than that Mobil 1 EP.

This way you don’t need to try and read the tea leaves of a spectrographic analysis or unproven testimonials on the Internet. Flash point and pour point are pretty useless here.

Good points - if the OP would like to broaden his search to include the robust Euro oils , then Castrol and Mobil have Euro synthetic oils for $24 in stock at WM .

Thanks for actually answering my question, sounds like M1 EP is going to be a fine choice
