lol..best post ever.
Exactly..Courtesy of P.T. Barnum's concept.

It's formulated for higher heat, resistance to blow-off, and doesn't have some of the additives motor oil has in it because they are not needed, and they can cause issues when they vaporize, such as ZDDP.

Modern low SAPS oils have different add pack

Less sulphated ash....lesser amounts of zync and phosphorus...

And they are heat resistent ( intended for use in turbo engines + long drain)

So let me ask you this...would you run CLP in your engine? It's the same thing, right?

Yes I will as CP and never as L...its too thin

I want EP/AW on slides...and on hammer....and on bolt where it slides...

Does CLP have any EP/AW additives?
All we can get from the internet are claims...and that it meets MIL-something standard...

Lucas Oil is as thin / runny as ATF Fluid?

I often wondered if a few of those red-colored fishing reel oils aren't ATF Fluid.
The yellow fishing reel oils have me totally stumped. I wonder if they use a dye in those.

It appears to have the exact same viscosity, color, and smell as ATF. Back in the 90's when I was living in Lake Havasu City, Az. I worked briefly at K&B Industries. They made those R/C model airplane engines. They also marketed a product at the time, with their name on it called "After Run". It was for lubing the engine after it was run, and would keep the Castor Oil which was used as a lubricant in the Nitro / Alcohol based fuel, from congealing on the hot engine parts.

The stuff was nothing more than Shell ATF. They had a big 55 gallon drum of it in the back. And when the girl who used to mix the fuel didn't have anything to do, she would fill up little 2 Oz. plastic squeeze bottles with the stuff, and put on a real pretty gold foil label. They packaged it in a nice labeled, red cardboard box with a cutout to fit the bottle. At the time I think they charged $9.95 for a 2 Oz. bottle of it.

I'm guessing Lucas, and God knows how many "gun oil" manufacturers, got the same idea over the years with various other motor oil's and greases.

Well, given that their CLP is almost entirely Kerosene it wouldn't surprise me if their other product is simply ATF.

Dunno what lucas oil you're using, but mine is blue-green and has a tackifier in it unlike any other oil on the market. Very heavy ZDDP content, which I don't "agree" with for a gun lube, but it is what it is.

Perhaps now their using 2 -Cycle oil. It's as good of a "gun oil" as most anything else they brand as such.

I've never seen any other oil that "strings" like grease when you move your fingers apart, yet is similar viscosity to Weapon Shield (to relate it to something you have). maybe they are, I dunno, but it seems physically unique to me.

Why do you need EP on those places? SIG used to run soybean oil on their P226's (steel slide, aluminum frame), and got literally hundreds of thousands of rounds out of the frames.

SLIP 2000 EWL has EP additives. Weapon Shield has EP additives. Yet it has not translated into them preventing wear any better than anything else on firearms. G96, for example, reduced wear on pistol slide/frames more than FP10, in one lab test I have linked before.

What good...is EP on a firearm? When someone can produce THAT data, then I feel it will be pertinent. So far, all the EP vs. non-EP wear data as relates to firearms indicates that it doesn't matter a hill of beans.

Which kindof raises the question...do you even know why you want that? Is it emotional, or logical? If logical, present the evidence. IF emotional, well, rock on. That influences 90% or more of the purchases made in 'Murica.

Chainsaw bar oil?

What G96 are you familiar with? I was looking at the G96 Military Approved Synthetic CLP Gun Oil. Been using Slip 2000EWL. Like trying different brands of top quality.

What was your issue with MPRO7?..... not being a CLP?
I can get a free bottle of it, but prefer purchasing a CLP-type, like the Slip and G96.

To be perfectly honest, I think they use whatever is laying around, put it into "Lucas Gun Oil" 2 Oz. bottles, and ship it out. I've got 2 bottles of this stuff sitting on the shelf. One is blood red like ATF. The other has a light brown cast to it. Much like most motor oils do. It's painfully obvious they're both different formula's. I'll try to post up a pic of both bottles later on.

Bill
Is one bottle much older than the other? Maybe Lucas changed their formula? Hard to believe they flip-flop ingredients like that. That's certainly not the M.O. to keeping a regular customer.

I'm guessing they're about a year apart. The reason I bought the second bottle was because I thought it looked different. When I got it home, sure enough, it was.

I just sent them an email questioning the three different colors (light brown / blue-green / red) in the bottle contents. Evidently red is the latest and greatest, according to their webpage picture......lol

If I get a reply, I'll post it.
