Gas Prices Are Going Up

Nice collection. Why the high octane? They all look like vehicles with low compression engines.
I’ve always been taught and told to use the high octane gas because it improves fuel mileage and keeps the engine and tank cleaner because it has more additives and is more pure gas.

Considering we had to work with $4/gal in 2008-2014 or so... Anything under $3/gal is still cheap to me.

I hardly ever really look at the price at the station I am at usually. It's a cost I have to pay, so it is what it is. Perhaps when gas breaks $5/gal I may reconsider taking the V8 out as much ;)
I remember paying $4.68 per gallon of D2 before the crash.

It may improve mpg in some engines, but even on those, a cost analysis may not show it to be cost effective. More additives is dubious.

Personally I don't go out of my way for "pure" gas, it may be the bee's knees in old equipment but in new stuff with sealed fuel tanks, I don't think it's needed at all. I'd try it out--if I thought it paid for itself, that is.

The traded price for gasoline continues to rise.

There may be slightly more additives in Premium gas, but if you don't have a high compression or forced induction engine 91-93 octane is largely a waste, if you want more additive add an ounce or two of techron or Redline Sl-1 to a tank of top tier 87 will more than match that of premium gas.

Injectors, valves and combustion chamber. Cold gasoline in the tank isn't going to be affected. When was the last time you found a bunch of deposits in your gas tank?
I guess you are right. I would figure since it all had to go back to the tank it could make it dirty.

And the octane rating of the gasoline in and of itself will not affect the fuel economy. There are various ways to affect the octane rating of gasoline but "straight gasoline" with two different octane ratings has the same energy content. Only if your engine is able to compensate by advancing the timing will you get a small improvement in efficiency. But if it cannot do that then a higher octane rating will do nothing for efficiency. It doesn't burn better nor more completely.

I saw $3.13 in the mountains of Colorado today. It's around $2.45-2.50 in the Denver area.

Almost $40 for rag at Chevron in Petaluma, CA. No cheapie stations in town...
Credit card add too dang much!
No time for a Costco run.

Today , BLOOMBERG : Whispers Of $100 Oil Return As Crude Shake's Off Covid's Clasp . 😧
Unfortunately for the oil industry, prices can only go as high as economies are able to sustain, and given that much of the economy lost to Covid isn't coming back, prices won't stay there long, IF it ever gets that high...Oil companies still need to be able to sell their products to make a profit...
