Back on propane for the winter.

I assume the thinking is that if we could prevent global warming from raising the ocean level, the state might save $10's of billions in trying to keep New York City from flooding... Sort of not shooting yourself in the foot idea

With China adding a new coal plant every week, I’d say good luck with that.

I sometimes wish my heat pump was propane backup vs electric booster coils. Especially when it comes to a generator.

My 6 ton indoor air handler is on a 60 amp breaker and outdoor compressor on a 30 amp. That's about a 20 KW just for the one heat pump. My second heat pump is 4 ton. And other stuff in the house like well pump. I would need a generator close to my 200 amp service. Or 45 KW.

I wonder what the total house load is if it was cold and both heat pumps using booster coils along with some clothes drying and cooking on stove/oven?
Can't just go off the circuit breaker. My system is on a 20A breaker, calls for 15 minimum. The manual shows max rated load is 9.64A at 208-230V with a "locked rotor" rating of 42.6A which comes out to a maximum of starting 9,798 watts for the compressor alone.

My 6,250 running/8,500 starting watt portable generator can easily power the entire house including that AC without me having to worry about the load. It just bogs momentarily (0.5-1 second) as the engine catches back up then is happy again. I just avoid using the microwave, it makes a weird noise when on the generator. Without the AC the house sits at 14-18%. Normally the AC only kicks it to about ~30 if I remember correctly.

I’m guessing one of these would be almost enough for Donald’s needs. You already have a diesel truck so feeding it shouldn’t be an issue. 🤡

Best thing I did was buy my 1000 gal in 2008. Now I shop around and fill once per year in summer/early fall. We try to use wood heat as much as possible. It can never fail if there's no electricity or an auger breaks or a control board goes out.

They are switching over building more/most new capacity being renewables, and some nuclear, as I think they are quite serious about moving to a more renewable/electricity based grid. Also reducing the amount of energy they need to import is never a bad idea.

China also has 250M+ people in cities, and ~40-60% of their economy that would be similarly affected by rising sea levels, so this is probably their start, to curb their global warming emissions.

Yup, although they are building coal plants, they have over 20 nuclear plants under construction. China’s population is 1.4 Billion and the entire population of the USA is a rounding error compared to them. It will be a big day when they stop building coal plants.

I don't know what I paid for my last propane fill.
About 2/3's 250 gallon tank that I own.
I do know the price per gallon varies by season and is significantly cheap in the spring.
