Gas mileage with different oil viscosities

MoS2 is what "soluble moly" does when exposed to heat and pressure at wear surfaces...therefore it's a functional part of many lubricants...and obviously not being ignored.

Why not actually read up on it here. I've yet to see more than a couple of users state it didn't improve mileage and I've only seen 1 that said it didn't help anything at all.
Yep. Must be

LOL... No mfgr I know recommends oil additives, in fact they discourage their usage... Still that doesn't stop many on here from gleefully adding this stuff while saying to only use the weight oil recommended by mfgr, guess most don't have a clue that something like MMO is going to reduce most oils one grade...

Correct. A fact relating to MMO and consequently a fact that has nothing at all to do with the MoS2 that you were referring to.

All snake oil. Show me a million mile vehicle using mos2. Then I am in. Show me something scientific. Placebos- 60% of the time, they work every time!

Same old issue. The same old stuff, over and over. This joint is like Grounhog Day, the movie.

There will likely never be any so-called "scientific studies" as there is no profit motive. So that continues to be the best way to ignore the massive anecdotal evidence available all over the place...

Well said, as usual Steve.

OEMs have a huge profit motive. They don't use it. BECAUSE. IT. DOESNT. WORK. See slick 50 and all the other [censored] additives shown to be garbage despite "massive anecdotal evidence". So I agree..groundhog day of suckers losing their money on snake oil.

Beyond what others have suggested here, I would suggest that with respect to the moly bandwagon, oil companies have hitched their wagons to different horses, i.e. different types of moly. I have a sneaking hunch that mos2 is far from an ideal additive in an ILSAC rated oil and FM properties can be obtained by using other types of moly.

Under certain, well defined conditions, there are additives and levels of those additives that can provide a benefit, such as ridiculously high ZDDP levels in racing engines, or higher than normal levels in break in oils. That doesn't mean that such levels are suitable in a normal, GF-5 rated oil. Nor are all types of ZDDP the same, either.
