Gambling with non-OEM brake pads?

I have never used OEM brake pads and never had an issue. Last pads I used were Bendix branded made in India and it came with everything (new hardware) and I would buy them again.

This thread will concentrate on front brakes only. Wagner Thermo Quiet are low dust, stop decent, do not last long. Great for Granny to go shopping and to see her doctor ! Advics are very high dust, stop on a dime, fade free, & are rotor eaters. I found the perfect combo for my old Toyota Solara with rear drum brakes. Bosch Quietcast pads & rotors. Low dust, stop on a dime, not a rotor eater.Single piston caliper. This is just MY particular application. Now, on my 13' CRV AWD, I'm using AC Delco rotors & Advics. So far the rotors are holding up. 6,000 miles. No warping. Dual piston caliper. MOST IMPORTANTLY is that the caliper pins are in good shape, the rubber boots are in good shape, and make sure you lube them well. A sticky/ semi-seized caliper pin will ruin ANY brake job in a heartbeat.

Replaced the pads on my GMC Sierra with “Genuine Delco Pads”. They’re from China and create dust on my wheels. I really don’t think it matters too much which brand-friction materials that are chosen these days. You really don’t know where they’re made and the quality. The Autozone pads used to create a lot of dust but hopefully that’s changed…

On taking delivery on my Corvette, I immediately replaced the high dusting Brembo pads with no dust high performance PowerStop Z26 pads. A popular change for Corvette owners tired of brake dust.

Smart switch to the Z26 pads. I wouldn't like to look at my Vette with dusty wheels either ( if I had a Vette :) ) Not many pads / shoes are made in USA, as we all know. Not much of anything is made in USA anymore. You can blame Jimmy Carter & Ronald Reagan for all of this. They got the ball rollin " out" of the United States. Too many trade agreements with cheap labor countries.

I have gambled with OEM pads for all of my past Hondas and have won every time. I use the OEM pad and have always had great luck with them...They fit right and the kit has all the parts I need to replace...

Well, time to chew out the ball & chain ! :) ( Like that will do any good anyway). She runs the Honda. She warps the rotors. I'll fix her but good next brake job. Make HER pay for all the parts !!!!! That'll take some weight off her foot !!!! Friggin truck driver.....

Time to go...I'll be back... Gettin another disc put in my back @ Hospital For Special Surgery In Manhattan. Too many years under the hood, under a car, or truck. Layin on the frozen asphalt putting in a tranny, etc....AND 36 years in Gas Construction in New York's Utility Company ( Con-Ed ) Both jobs outdoors, all weather...Did my back in but good. They'll fix me, again :)

Did the same for the Hellcat. Popular choice on the forums.

No fair :(...Vette's and Hellcat's. Wishbook cars for me :(.....I'll make trades for the both : 03' Toyota Solara LE Coupe / 4cylinder/ automatic/ silver/ 128k ---- 06' Toyota Camry LE / 4cylinder / automatic/ silver / 122k ----- 13" Honda CRV XLE AWD / automatic/ 4cylinder / metallic brown / 614, 873k /.......... How bout it ? Wanna play " Make a Deal" :)

Yea, I know, OEM Toyota or Akebono tends to work better on Toyotas. But, if I had to get brake pads tonight to go along with new rotors - I had a machine shop molest a set of Aisin rotors and there’s a shimmy in them upon braking, what would you gamble with?

- Duralast Gold or BrakeBest Select Ceramicc Indian-made by MAT Holdings
- Duralast Elite made by Bosch in Mexico
- PerfectStop Elite, made by Bosch in Mexico
- Federated, made by Wagner in Mexico or USA.

I might have time on my side to get OEM Toyota. They’ll be going onto a 2005 Sienna.
Wagner is a fairly reputable brand, and if usa made then go for it. The ceramic depending on the compound may squeal when cold or wear rotors faster.

Not overheating - but pad deposits causing the vibration.

Sienna rotors are junk. Period. Most aftermarket are there too, or worse.
I ran high-dust EBC pads and Pagid pads in combination with EBC Premium rotors, and no warping. That is after having Toyota OE on the Sienna with OE pads. Warped in 8k. Get another rotors and pads. Warped in 6k. Got EBC ano problems. Got Pagid after, no problems.
They will dust more, but then, they actually brake.
On Sequoia I still don;t have warping, but then Sequoia's brake system is made by ATE and not Denso, so I am thinking rotors might be ATE too.

Calipers and rotors are Advics. The front calipers are a 4-pot fixed caliper. The brake booster/MC and ABS modulator is ATE(Conti).

Had a 13' Pilot AWD. A gas guzzlin monster. No matter what front rotors or pads I put on it, they all failed. Years down the line, Corporate Honda got in trouble over this. A class action lawsuit was attempted, but failed. The front OEM rotors & pads were under rated for the weight of the vehicle. There was no option to change the circumference of the rotors either. I sold the truck. Poor brake design on Honda's end. You seem to possibly be experiencing the same issue with the Sienna. I would heed edyvw's thread on this one. Sounds like he has been down the same warpy Sienna road. Best of luck.

This is mainly the reason why I'm going towards Duralast pads and rotors, especially on SUV & Vans. Their lifetime warranty is unbeatable.
