I'm starting to get a little shocked at some of the signs lately. The ARCO station I go to has regular at $3.51, and the uptown Chevron is at $3.75. We're not even at the peek driving season yet.

Get used to it. $4.00+ gas is coming soon. I feel for the people who are poor and can't afford it, but the USA needs to start getting off of this gas addiction. Way too many gas guzzlers here. This petro big car culture cheap gas lifestyle just can't last.

I'll stop there because anything more is gonna get political.

I'll tell you all what ... if the high price of gasoline forces people to get rid of their SUVs and monster trucks, I say bring it on.

I am sort of with AcuraTech and Merkava

. There is a post of a father thinking of buying 1/2 ton truck for his 16 y.o. out of good intentions, but...It raised my eyebrows.
We are for recession however as people will readjust their lifestyles and governments implement a better pub. transport system.

My lifestyle is already adjusted down as far as it can go.

The Buick gets about 21 mpg overall on regular, and my payment is lower than the Mercedes' was and the insurance the same, so it's not too bad. I post using dialup. I buy a lot of my groceries at the Dollar Tree, and combine trips even more than I have for the last 30 years. I rarely go out to eat any more. And I rent in the cheapest decent area of The Swamp, have only a 9-mile commute, watch my power bills like a vulture checking out a dying antelope, clean my own clothes, and make do with extremely basic cable. Brothers, I'm squeezing every nickel until Jefferson squeals.

How much further can I adjust??!!!

next step would be to move towards paying no interest to anyone. I canceled my car's collision insurance last year, after realizing I was pooled in with people who regularly drive drunk and people who can't figure out spatial relationships in their head.

The 1973 oil embargo was our "wake-up call" to the economic perils of over-dependence on petroleum-based energy and transportation. And what did we do about this wake-up call? We went back to sleep for 30 years. And now we are paying the price, literally, for doing nothing.

In all honesty who cares about the SUV/truck drivers if they are here or gone. We all know that is not the reason for the price of fuel it two countries called India and China who need oil to fuel new consumer demand internally and produce exports.

china and india might as well be in recession if we/Europe are too.

The reality is that world demand or not, it is well known what people will and wont do with regards to energy use, and it is also well understood how much the big users can be squeezed.

Upside down mega-V8 truck owners still drive 85 and dont think twice about fuel costs, they just chargeit to their 24% credit card.

This is the ultimate scenario for traders... use "uncertainty", "anticipated demand" and similar buzzwords as an excuse to price gouge and trade up the costs since they can squeeze the majority of drivers here in the land where we consume about 1/4 of the world's oil production.

Talk about a great scenario for squeezing dimes... a bunch of idiots exercising their rights to drive, drive fast, and drive overpowered guzzlers because they "deserve it", and "it's fun". OK, whatever, they laugh at us all the way to the bank, since they can just trade the price up and up and we keep on paying with money we dont have.

Glad Im on the profit end of this scenario, I just laugh at everyone, all the way to the bank too. Go ahead and honk if you dont like me doing 4 over the speed limit(or just at the speed limit on some 65 MPH and most 70 roads). My bottom line is more important than their rush.

We are not in a recession, but that does not mean we're not moving there. The media has been spouting recession bulls*** for quite some time so everyone is freaking out and not spending money which brings down everything, including the dollar value. Then you throw in the housing market issues, credit problems, and untaxed illegals, and we've got one h*** of a problem.

Also remember that China is drilling in international waters (off the coast of Florida) for oil, while we're not getting a chance of becoming independent because of hippies and the EPA.

But I do find it funny how all these people BMC (b****, moan, and complain) about gas prices, but they drive their trucks/SUVs/sports cars in a speeding, "pedal to the floor" style. They'll also drive a mile instead of getting off their fat a** and walking.

I have a full size GMC Pick-up and my lifestyle has me using it a lot.

I also have every right to own my truck!

I do not waste gas and I bet I use the engine so efficiently as in condensed trips and only driving it as sparingly as possible, I believe I save MORE gas than rush-around-drive-everywhere yuppies in their small to mid sized cars. So there!

My thoughts exactly,, 'cept I make no effort to conserve. If you can't stay out of the way and insist on driving the speed limit, you'll be wondering "DAAAyum that idiot'd in a hurry". Yes, if I didn't have someplace better to be, I'd be where I was, instead of driving to where I'm going.

AMEN! The oil drilling & refining business has been artificially retarded by 30-35 years now. How would the U.S. fare if the computer & software makers couldn't use new technologies to produce any new computers or boxes of software? That industry would be decimated then we'd be overtaken there, too.

I don't buy into the "SUV's are the enemy" garbage. That's just class envy. People can drive what they want, it's their choice. Sadly, we're all dealing with poor decisions 30-35 years ago whether you drive an SUV, econo-box or moped.

The high gasoline and oil prices are making wonderful profits for the players involved. Funnel a bit of that profit to government officials, and you can rent a stranglehold on the market.

Don't hate me because as I pulled out of my landscaped McMansion I cut in front of you in my leased over-due-for-service HUMMER which you can't see through the white tailpipe smoke as I drive as fast as it will go on the cheapest half-flat tires I can get to my daughter's school play on the enviornment only to stop at the drive-thru and yell at the staff with a mouthfull of food while on the cell phone trying to light a cigarette with my defective lighter I got from WalMart. YOU PEOPLE ARE THE PROBLEM, not ME!!!

Truckers in Georgia are threatening to protest the high fuel prices and possibly quit delivering until prices come down. People are so f***ing retarded if they believe that'll bring prices down. It'll just raise every other price up and then the country will get even more f***ed up.

People like that need to be removed from the gene pool for being that stupid.
