If that's true, then it's likely a Fram made Defense DL with similar to EG construction and a nitrile adbv. The one I saw when I googled the DL10575 showed a Champ made design(likely ecore), identifiable by baseplate with auxiliary outer plate. In any case, I think you are wise to shorten the fci to 6 months for the DL.
As for the cause(s) here, while the cold temps and higher bypass psi may be contributing factors to the fail, 'imo' the primary reason is a lack of media area resulting in wide pleat spacing. That allows for more potential tear areas, points. Basically, the same reason tears seen in other filters. Add more media, tighter uniform pleating, less potential to tear.
