Had some with done to one of our trucks. 2005 Ford F-150 5.4 3v. It needed some hydraulic lash adjusters on one bank to remedy some bad ticking. The shop that did it decided to do an engine flush and oil change after the work. I don’t think the mechanic likes Fram because he cut it open and sent it back to us so we could see how bad it is... I don’t see anything wrong with it. Only about 500 kms on the interval for the filter. Sucks to have wasted some good oil and a filter because they have some old thinking.

Yea I can’t find anything wrong with it. Looks great in my opinion. They really suggested to not use fram anymore... which is funny because that’s all I use after all the motorcraft failures that I’ve had. They also suggested to change the oil every 3k kms and to do another flush but maybe with transmission fluid...

Just a really old school mechanic who is not up to date at all with things. I just thought it was funny and figured I should post the cut open filter.

The filter looks good. Maybe someone can explain what they did, hydraulic lash adjuster replacement to stop ticking?

They replaced all of the lash adjusters on the driver side. 3 were bad as well as one follower which was also bad.
Here’s a link that describes it better.

Also the mechanic recommended motorcraft filters. But I refuse to us and fl820s. Had too many of them fail on me.

I don’t know enough about these new cars. Only remember hydraulic tappets and the pushrods were solid.

I have 2 5.4l triton . First one make a lot of noise but it’s 240k miles now . Most dependable truck I ever had . 5w30 Quaker state high miles with mc fl820s

These motor I don’t think you can make it quiet . I think it just nature . Unless you have a knock knock

I like fram basic oil filter . Easy to find and easy on price . I use it on different cars and trucks on my family . But both of my 5.4l 3v is only like the motorcraft FL820s . Every other filter will make 1-2 second start up rattle noise . So I know the tear issue . I still use fl820s but do really short oil change under 3000 miles .

Everyone hates on frams basic oil filters...blah blah blah fiber end caps, blah blah blah OCOD! Has anyone every really had a failure? I haven’t ever
There actually is one that caused engine damaged posted in these forums. However it had nothing to do with the end caps. Filter wasn't made right and the oil pump sucked the adbv into the motor causing a blockage.

Need to know the whole story behind that one. Like said in those threads, if the guts are loose (for whatever reason) on any filter then the same failure is possible.

I’ve used the orange can of joy on many things. No issues - despite Ford wanting their BPV on the “clean” end of their engine. My qualms would be Hyundai and Subaru.
