at my local big lots they have have fram oil treatment&stabilizer synth and regular flavors.it is 2.00-2.49 a quart.any one have any experience with it?any opinions or info.thinking of using it as a transmission/misc lube on an old 1974 jim dandy tractor.kohler engine and crosley manual transmission and i think a dana or ford rearend.
big lots also has the stp 4 cylinder oil treatment for 2.50 a pint.on some of the tractor forums regular stp was substituted for the transmission lube as it quietened down the transmission and made shifting the non-synchro transmission easier.
would the 4 cyl version be comparable? any ideas ?
thanks people.

I would use any of these oil additives with caution...now for old tractors and what not, I don't know if it could hurt that bad, FRAM products generally get bashed on this Board, their orange oil filters are garbage but the Extended Guard's are one of the best so are their air filters...IMO. STP, FRAM, or any oil treatment for that old of a tractor I don't think could hurt that bad. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I would just use a descent oil in the first place.

Sorry for the rambling.

it does caution on the label that it contains zinc alkydithiophosphate.also it is thinner than lucas type products.definitely not honey like.same consistency as motor oil and light in color.

Used it in my 2001 corolla, 1 bottle in place of same amount of oil at Oil Change & Filter time. The oil did dirty up quicker than usual.

Use it.

I've got a bottle of that as well that is going in my next oil change. It says it has both Zinc and detergent/dispersants in it, so it should be good.

For the $2 I paid for it, it can't be bad!!!

If you say fram anywhere on this site people have to write do not use their oil filters, this site is full of
02.gif

I say use it and let us know what you think.

I agree there is a lot of slam the fram mentality on this site, it doesnt bother me as much as others.
But as for your question on the Fram Oil Stabilizer additive i believe the lack or response is because very few have used it and because their is not a UOA or VOA on it.
I have about 5 qts of the synthetic brand and i will use one in my next oil change on the Ford Ranger.

+1 It could have some value like SLOB or VSOT. But from the looks of it we'll probably never know.

The only oil filter problems Ive ever had was with drainback on a Fram filter. OTOH, that is all my daughter buys for her 100k mile '06 Corolla. The ones with the hand grip on them. The 'Rolla has had them since new. Not a bit of trouble.
