Has the media been verified as 2-ply? I haven't notice it in the marketing or pictures yet.
Even a single ply is plenty good... Wix XP, Ryco Syntec, RoyalPurple, Amsoil, Baldwin, TRD, Napa Platinum, forgotten Bosch Distance Plus, original Fram X2, and the orignal Peak HardDriver
I don't car for interval marketing of ANY filter since this, like all others, will have small print that fools don't read. Amsoil has had numerous bulletins over the years. Here are some, but not all, of the Amsoil known crud monsters
that defeated the 'marketing' department.
Provides up to 20,000 miles/32,000 km of protection when used with an appropriate synthetic oil. Follow recommended change intervals as outlined in your owner’s manual.
We don't have too many automakers recommending 20k mile filter intervals. And, some that did, even had 'time' limitations too.
Amsoil had to learn the hard way... from their growing list of technical bulletins:
AMSOIL no longer recommends EaO09, EaO10 or EaO57 Filters with any Toyota/Lexus application.
AMSOIL recommends changing the EaO13 Oil Filter according to OEM-recommended intervals in the following applications: • 2001-2010 Honda • 2002-2010 Acura • 1992-2006 Chrysler imports • 1993-1997 Ford Probe • 1996-2010 Nissan/Infiniti • 1971-2000 Mazda • 1999-2000 Mercury Villager • 1990-2010 Mitsubishi • 2004-2007 Saturn
AMSOIL recommends the WIX 57060 oil filter for Suzuki/GM 3.6L V6 engine applications. AMSOIL does not recommend the use of the EaO50 or EaO47 filters with applications powered by the Suzuki/GM 3.6L V6 engine. These applications include, but are not limited to, the following vehicles: • 2008-2009 Buick Enclave with 3.6L V6 engine • 2008-2009 Buick Lacrosse with 3.6L V6 engine • 2008-2009 Chevrolet Malibu with 3.6L V6 engine • 2008-2009 Chevrolet Equinox Sport with 3.6L V6 engine • 2007-2009 GMC Acadia with 3.6L V6 engine • 2007-2009 Pontiac G6 GTP with 3.6L V6 engine • 2008-2009 Pontiac Torrent GXP with 3.6L V6 engine • 2008-2009 Pontiac G6 GXP with 3.6L V6 engine • 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 with 3.6L V6 engine • 2007-2009 Saturn Aura XR with 3.6L V6 engine • 2007-2009 Saturn Outlook with 3.6L V6 engine • 2008-2009 Saturn Vue XR with 3.6L V6 engine • 2008-2009 Saturn Vue Red Line with 3.6L V6 engine • 2007-2009 Suzuki XL-7 with 3.6L V6 engine
AMSOIL EA15K50 Oil Filter Temporarily Not Recommended for Select Ram and GM Applications
We are no longer recommending the AMSOIL EA15K50 Oil Filter for 2007-2013 GM vehicles with the 5.3L engine and 2013-current Ram vehicles with the 5.7L or 6.4L engines.
I guess the above info is good support for those of us that use oversized filters and sane change intervals and don't practice extended filter interval foolishness based on marketing.
And with so many showing hate for the filtration of the WixXp and its clone(not sure anymore) Napa Platinum. What filter holds the most? I'd love to meet the team that balanced micron rating with holding capacity. I also understand that the Xp/Platinum media might be in a state of flux since I've sheen some that look too much like the Purolator Boss. Merger/acquisitions create confusion.
Or that some automakers' filter capability, like Toyota or Hyundai, were good 50+ micron rock catchers. So, why is a 35 micron XP/Platinum so bad when it beats OE filtration? Old data but makes a point
And Hyundai's youtube anti knockoff filter video years ago bragged about OE 50 micron capability that the knock-offs couldn't meet. There is a UOA and particle count in the UOA section years ago that showed the 50 micron ability of the Hyundai -35503 cannister filter too that supported the Hyundai deleted youtube video. 50 micron good enough for Honda, Toyota, Hyundai.....
And YES, I would use the FE Fram even if it had a 30-40 micron rating, as long as it has a better than average gram holding capacity, and filtered flow rates. A
BTW,
@SubieRubyRoo, there are plenty of millions of filters that have been overhyped and used by millions of owners for decades that NEVER HAD micron filtration ratings or holding capacity that were published or marketed. Some of these brands are pushed simply because of nationalism, or because they looked good. Those 4 Euro brands are commonly seen in the cut open filter forum. So, if no one questions those brands, why would I fear or doubt Fram FE? Take a few common filter PN numbers from Hengst, MH, Purflux, Mahle... gets tons of love with no one ever questioning their gram holding or single/multi or absolute micron ratings. So yes, I would definitely blindly use the Fram FE filters without questioning Fram based on their past single and double layer full synthetic offerings.
If I really wanted real filtration, I'd install a Trasko, Stilko, or Frantz and use toilet paper. The full flow filter is a fools joke.
