Would it be true to say the problem with FRAM is the canister construction and not the media?

If one's vehicle uses cartridge filters, any concern with FRAM filters? I was looking at the Ultra Syn's (XG) and seemed good media: slightly pinkish, slightly fuzzy synthetic with a wire mesh backing.

Also, are the differences in Endurance, Titanium, and Ultra in the canister construction only?

My application MB-M272 only offers Ultra's. Makes me think the media might all be the same so they don't bother with Endurance and Titanium in cartridge filters. Though, it seems like they'd call 'em Endurances and then not offer Titanium and Ultras.

Thanks.

The Endurance is different media (and wire-backed) vs the Ultra and Titanium in the spin-on (canister) configuration. Not sure of the exact differences in the cartridge configuration. But if the XG cartridge filter is wire-backed then that's good.

If a cartridge filter fits correctly in the engine and doesn't fail in use, then there shouldn't be any concern with them.

For my 2GR-FE engines, the Fram cartridges are slightly shorter than OEM and SuperTech cartridges that I have compared, I am not comfortable with a "shorter" cartridge filter...

The media looked fine. The orange box, tough guard, ultra, and synthetic endurance all looked great otherwise, just shorter.

Fram's end cap design in the XG and FE (vs capless, like the oem-denso or carquest) is a little different and isn't the cartridge holder spring loaded anyway?

I haven't done a rigorous study, but I have a FE on our 2GR at the moment with the intention of going multiple OCI with it.

There was once a TRD filter for the 2GR. IIRC, it was capped. I wonder if it was the same length.

Far as I've seen the cartridges are just fine & some European models are still using the OG Ultra wire backed. Don't know when or if that'll end.

I've never seen a visual issue with any of the variety of brands of cartridges I've used in our vehicles (5/6 use carts). Fram Endurance in my Sportwagen now looked fine.

Even though I'm ditching all Fram Spin-on filters for the foreseeable future, I still really like their cartridge. Looks much more robust than the OEM filter. As long as the Fram cartridge continues to look like this, I probably keep buying them..

Nice looking US made OG XG cartridge. Should work well for Toyota application. Otoh, for BMW applications, multiple OG XG cartridge post use anecdotes over time have shown separation of media from the endcaps. Based on that, I wouldn't recommend them for BMW. Thanks for the pics.

I run cartridges in a couple of vehicles. Given First Brands abuse of the canister line I'm not sure I will support them at all even if the cartridges are still okay. I have some champ xl filters to use up on the Tundra but after that I'm shifting to Carquest Premiums unless First Brands gets serious about quality at their price point.

Update on my Fram Endurance...not what I was expecting.

Wow! I´m shocked at how that Endurance looked! I´ve run a bunch of the XG in my Jeeps and have never seen anything like that. I´ll avoid the Endurance. I might give the basic Fram a run. I think 95% at 20 ng is better than most premium filters.

I have also run a number of Mobil 1 and a couple Mopar filters. They have held up just fine, too.

Great video!
