Fram Titanium is no longer metal screen backed. Ultra, Endurance, Titanium ALL are synthetic *blend* media.

I was surprised to see it has lovers. I thought the FE filters had wire backed media and holes in the center tube…
The Fram Endurance is wire back, but I think they normally have louvers. At least all the FE spin-ons I've seen have louvers.

As the Fram Endurance is made by the Champ Labs division of FB, having a louvered tube would make sense. Thus far haven't seen any though with ecore like some Royal Purple have shown.

I recently bought two Ultras, & they now have louvers in the center tube.

As far as filter media between the RP, Amsoil, & Endurance, my UOA showed lower particle count for particles >4u with the Fram FE than the Amsoil EaO. I have no experience with RP.

This is purely anecdotal, with readings from 3 different vehicles, two with Fram FE, one with Amsoil EaO.

You still have that FE filter for flashlight test??😂😂😂

I think FRAM switched to louvers?? was at WM and every filter XG I opened was louvers😭 went to AA and 3 outa 4 were also, and they looked pretty tightly closed too

Fram swapped over to louvers quite a while ago. Not sure if they did on every model, but every one I've looked at in the last 9-10 months had louvers. Motorcrafts with the steel center core also swapped to louvers a long time ago. Guess it's "hip" to have louvers ... but not if they are choked down louvers, lol.

Right, Ugg ok, yea my stash just ran out so had to go looking

Can't assume anything is going to stay the same in the oil filter world for more that 6 month. 😵
Truth.

After the recent quality issues across many brands, I’ve pretty much decided to run factory filters with a Filtermag, and call it good.

Theoretically louvers spread the flow out over a larger area evening it out.

I don't think it really matters what the center tube is if there's enough flow area. Even Fram center tubes with a bunch of small holes have a very small dP across them, and there's a lot of holes to even out the flow field around the circumference of the center tube. Filter have had center tubes with holes for 65 years before louvers became the rage.

Yea but when you look down the tube and see barely open slits it gives you a bad feeling.

Yeah, louvers are something you need to always watch for good formation ... cousin to the ripply leaf spring. 😵

Its all so confusing. Nothing seems to be what its supposed to be. I would like a consensus on:

1) Best economy filter for 5K-7K miles
2) Filter best value for 10K+ miles
3) Top filter for any price for 15+ miles.

Just my opinion based on build quality.

Carquest Premium/Microgard Select from 0-10k. Another Carquest Premium/Microgard Select each 10k after.

For the sale price on Carquest Premium it’s really a no brainer.
