Fram Endurance - synthetic and wire backed

...These Fram threads are are the equivalent of: "Fram Groundhog's Day".... Here we go again.

Everyone gets all concerned about microns and capacity and wire-backed media. (And all Fram has to do is make a few changes and spend some marketing dollars.)

Don't get me wrong, I like innovation, but there's absolutely nothing "new" here except for the name "Endurance".

Just pick a filter and do normal OCI's. This isn't a NASA mission to Mars.

There is something new, this new Fram Oil Filter might actually be a Royal Purple Oil Filter, different color on the outside but same media on the inside.

True... but.... I suppose it's just my quest to simplify car maintenance. How many FRAM filter options do we have now? Four? Five?
It's not only confusing (for the average consumer) it makes the decision on buying more difficult. If I were to do this... I'd have a basic 3-5K filter (lower cost)
and then a premium filter. All the different models in-between.... don't need them. WIX has three versions and that's one too many. Silver, Gold, and Platinum.

This new Fram offering is the same thing auto manufacturers do for a "new model year". Same as last years car, but they change the grille and tail lights, offer a new color and it's now the "New" vehicle. Marketing at it's finest. I just try to avoid all the HYPE.

Royal Purple has some good filters and oil... I just hardly ever see them used in the real world.

There are 2 many Fram Oil Filter options, but us BITOGERS want the Wired Version. I am sure that Zee member on here will chime in.

Actually, I want the Wired Version.

I get that part... (Mostly the reasons why I read posts on this site!) But... if you want the "Wired" versions... Doesn't that say something about the filter itself?

What's so great about wires in the filter media? Has there been a rash of collapsed and failed media on the non-wired versions? Or..Is it just piece of mind?

What is the real benefit? I mean... this whole thread of conversations stems around this "new" being "better". Well... I've been around long enough to know "new" is more often a marketing ploy along with finding a way to make a product less expensive to produce.

"New & Improved!!" Alrighty then!!!

The wired version holds up better with basically no tears in the Filter Media.

Currently I'm using the Fram Ultra 7317 and sometimes I run those for an oil change or two sometimes three to get close to the 15 or 20,000 mile range. Is this new filter just going to a lot me one more oil change interval? I would like to see a little bit more duration before I have to change oil but I don't know if we're getting to that point like they did with the extended performance oil that was annually changed from Exxon Mobil. I think eventually there comes a point where you want to change it because if you have something in there like foreign debris or dirt the easiest way to get rid of it or remove it is to change it. Although thank you for posting the pictures I will take a look today when I get to Walmart here in El Dorado

I got an old school wire backed FU 7317 that I’m taking to 60K miles, that’s right 60K miles.

I should have car back in December and will sent it to Adam for filter autopsy.

This filter is on my daughter in law’s car with 6-7K drain & refills.

FWIW I went to three different stores in Manitowoc, Wisconsin today and saw an abundance of wire backed Ultra filters in a variety of different filter numbers. I was shocked to see the wire back annotation on the boxes because I haven't commonly seen that for a few years. Perhaps some old stock was found and they're getting it out on the shelves? I don't know but I was surprised to see this at multiple different stores in my local area.

@Linctex took a regular Motorcraft filter out to 30k, and a Fram Tough Guard to 50k, so it’s not surprising that on a clean engine a filter with depth filtration would go even farther.

What is commendable is your intestinal fortitude to keep it on that long! 👍🏻

Holy holy holy holy holy cow…..

That’s AWESOME

I have heard that Fram og ultras could go 30k miles… in a filter size similar to the 7317.

I believe 60k could be done… especially changing the oil every 6-7k miles… definitely good change interval for maxim miles on a filter.

Interesting to see how the Fram marketing department works.
Keep the Ultra, but make it with cheaper materials, then take another filter that was very similar to the Ultra and sell it as the new "premium deluxe" filter and charge even more for it.

I have no need for a 25,000 mile filter, I just can't make myself drain the oil and leave the filter on there.
I am sure it would last, but with my 5,000 mile interval I use on most of my vehicles, and most of them getting one oil change a year, I would really have a hard time leaving a filter on for 5 years.
