Fram Endurance - synthetic and wire backed

Another time traveler! Lol...I just wished people were honest.
That's wishful thinking.
Proper communication is key to running a business and human civilization.
In an ideal world, yes. Yet, firms spends millions a year on consultants who do the thinking and talking for them, basically to justify their stupidity. Consultants are therapists for companies. I work in the industry, I should know.

If proper communication is the key, respect has to be the metal that forms the key. I like your thinking.

I don't like the fe9688, since they're a Champ labs filter it's got the annoying large gasket that makes it potentially unsuitable as an oversize for applications that the 6607 or 7317 are specified.

I saw these at my local WM last week. One think I noticed was the 3980 having a different baseplate than what I am used to on Fram filters. Looked more like a M1 filter.

The smaller 7317, which I also use, looked like a traditional Fram.

......pic deleted.
I like the gasket design on the Champ Labs 9688 ecore applications. Rather than the narrow inside OD gasket used on most 9688/3593A applications, Champ extends it to the OD of the filter. Afaik, changes nothing about the OD of the filter, same as non Champ. Shouldn't affect whether filter fits 6607/7317 applications or not. The engines with block restriction rings surrounding the filter or oil pan interference would determine that either way.

Also, the channel between the narrow gasket and the filter OD tends to be an area that collects crud. Especially in areas with high salt and sand use, a potential area of rust.

Interesting to see confirmation that the FE is following the current RP filter using ecore design on some applications. I'll 'speculate' beyond the 9688, smaller applications like 7317/6607, 4967/4386 will also be using ecore design.

Noticed this now that I've seen FE filters at Walmart. These are xg4967 and fe4967. Old and new Ultra have holes vs louvers(?), going route of new endurance. Seems to me like new manufacturer is taking over the whole line since I've seen this on titanium's too. Ultra appear to be basically be the same without wire backing and white colored media. Still filter at the same efficiency from what I've seen on boxes. As others have stated here, $4 more for wire doesn't make sense.

On Fram's end they aren't technically launched yet, the specs for individual filters aren't up yet only the landing page for the product line.

Local WM now has the FE applications in stock. I saw no applications using an ecore centertube that Royal Purple uses on some applications. Every one I looked at including the 9688, 4967 and 6607 have a louvered metal tube. Noticeably absent from the FE applications though were 7317 and 4386, the longer versions of the shorty 6607, 4967. And, at least currently there's no spaces provided for those applications.

Yeah, 4386 are gone from all the Walmart's in SoCal that I've been to. Only available for msrp at AAP. My 03 RAV4 uses yzzf1 from factory, but xg4967 is all I use now since that's all that can be found without paying $13 for a 4386 titanium. Only pricing for them is even worse.

I think Fram has discontinued the 4386 size along with the 3593A size recently, at first it was just at Walmart but I've noticed now that other retailers have gotten rid of the 3593A

So, in other words, they cheapened the Ultra to eliminate the wire-backed media, didn't lower the price, and then made this new line with the old wire-backed media and now charges more for it :sneaky:
It's not the old media, it's a different style media that's really from Champ Labs and was previously used for private label filters for Royal Purple, Amsoil, and Toyota TRD.

I have a 7317, so they at least exist.
Good to know, and I do see them listed on WM.com. and showing in another nearby b&m WM store. Imo, would have been a mistake to consolidate the popular 7317 size.

Also, unlike the Ultra, boxes are 'not' sealed....at least for now.

Be interesting to see how the FE sell with average WM shopper at the ~$13 price point.

Is this Microglass media? Does this media have depth filtration? Ty
Yes it's microglass, but it's likely the same filter as Royal Purple which in testing has a lower holding capacity compared to the old Ultra due to an overall thinner layer of microglass.
