Hmmmmm, another attempt to wreck Fram and talk about "the orange can of doom". It seems to be clear that something punctured the can as the metal of the hole points in ward, and not outward, which would be indicative of a failure. I highly, highly doubt that a nail sized hole would be the only place the metal was thin and then just gave way. The odds are pretty high that it would happen that way. That being said, how about some more reasons to hate the poor "orange can of doom" as everyone affectionately refers to Fram oil filters. If he is really stuck on Fram, try the XG version. It's a little more expensive, but VERY well made. I just recently cut one open after 7500 miles of use and was pretty impressed. The thread is on here if you want to take a look. My 2 cents....

Oh and, maybe you might want to change the thread title? This isn't really a "Fram" disaster, but rather a "debris" disaster. Nothing like some slander to [censored] a company off.

The picture is kinda out of focus and I wear glasses like Professor Farnsworth on Futurama, but that hole looks like it was made from the outside to me. This was not a filter failure.

I need some help. In November my car started making a weird noise, the oil light came so I pulled my car off the road and turned off my car. Well it ends up my oil filter fell off. I then sued the oil change place but they won becuase I had driven 2,600 miles before this happened. I am trying to make a claim with insurance but no one can tell me how it falls off. I have a Toyota Solara 2006, with 50,000 miles. I had to have my engine rebuilt for $4000. What happened? Can I be compenated for my loss? Does this just happened? Could I have hit something? Could that cause it to fall off?
there are 2 different thread sizes that I am aware of that are common for oil filters. One is just slightly larger than the other. You can not get the smaller threaded filter onto the larger thread on a motor, but you can thread the larger threaded filter onto a motor with the smaller threads. It will not stay tight though. It is possible they used the wrong filter, but I would be suprised you could have gone that many miles before it came off.

Wow - assuming this is not a joke, any one of a number of things could have happened, from an improperly tightened filter slowly coming loose, to a piece of road debris tearing the filter off. I'm guessing you'd have heard anything that would have ripped off the filter, so, if you didn't hear a loud noise, I'd go with a gradually loosening filter. Now, I doubt you'll be able to prove that someone didn't tighten it, not after 2,600 miles.

1. fram filter, threads cut improperly, for an '85 golf. filter threads almost all the way on, but hard to tell, and hard to get at. idiot me, I turn the car on, wait for the oil light to stop blinking (would always blink for a good 4-5 seconds)I let it go too long, engine stalled. I didn't notice all the oil blew out because I still had the pan under the car.
2. happened to a friend of my brother, car bottomed out at the bottom of a fast hill across an intersection, hit the drain plug to unscrew it. they stopped the engine just in time. drain plug was found on the ground right where the spill started.

If something happens, it is the filter's fault. One of the early Ecores blew on a Chevy with the bypass blocked off. Obviously an indication nobody should ever buy an Ecore.

That is what I would think. The oil was not leaking from the street into the driveway, but from the driveway into the street. Either a Fram hater paid you a visit or someone doesn't like your father.

I don't think Stevie would start a hoax just to bad-mouth Fram filters. Just a coincidence, IMO.
It's just a FRAM-O-Death,what you expect.
They cany prove all the damage that Fram causes so they have to take it into there own hands...and an ice pick or two......
