GM and Ford products I have owned were total POS. Yes they may improve, but I would have to see it for years before I would go back. That would be thinking in my opinion.

Not really it is never until they prove me wrong...and right now they still have a ways to go...may years to go....unless they fold...

How about 11 years, 8 years, 7 years and 4 years? That's the age of the Fords in my driveway. With the exception of the 11 year old (Mustang) that has been modified to [censored], all of the others have been flawless.
A good Ford just starts to get broken in at 5 years.
But look out after 3 months...I always like these reports... Any car should be good after 3 months...lets talk a few years down the road.....

Possibly this report and the JD Powers Initial Quality report are reflecting not just the quality of the cars when they come from the factory, but the first experience a new owner has with the dealership service department.
If there is a minor problem, but it's fixed immediately and never resurfaces, the new owner is likely to be very forgiving and to give the vehicle high marks.
But if the service department does not take good care of the customer -- if they don't have a part or take too long to get it -- if the customer has to return again and again -- then the she is likely to express her unhappiness by downgrading the vehicle and the entire car company.
Maybe the Ford dealerships did a better job than the others -- took a little extra time on each car. I know that bad Volkswagen dealerships are the primary reason why VW enjoys the bad reputation it has in the United States. (The same cars are sold in Canada, but Canadians award them much higher favorable ratings so it must be the good Canadian dealership network.)

They do, but Ford made trans coolers standard, Mazda made it available only with certain packages. Result, many more Tributes had trans problems. At least, that's what I was told by a friend who is a Ford Senior Master Tech at a F-L-M/Mazda dealership.
I learned about the Mazda 2.3DI through a two different Ford insiders. The fact that it failed Ford's durability standards is the reason Ford never installed it in any of their vehicles and waited (years) until their own 2.5L EcoBoost is ready.
Mazda trails Ford in all of these quality studies.

I have had good experiance with Ford. The only auto I have owned that was not worn out at 60k has been Ford. In fact I bought a brand new Honda Cr-V that the valve train was shot after 10k. And Honda would not stand behind there warrenty.
Ford makes pretty good cars. They're trucks are pretty good too with the exception of the new diesels. Not sure how much intervention they had with Jaguar though. My uncle's S-type has had more problems in 53k miles than you'd believe from a new car.
I am glad they did. I had far less problems with my GM-built (as in another domestic brand)Isuzu than I did with 05 Toyota Tacoma.
Tacoma was my first and last Toyota. Everything from tin-foil tailgate that folded in half, (Toyota service department told me I could not stand on it, let alone use it for loading), to very weak paint, cheap plastic interior, 1100# rated suspension that bottomed out with 300# in the bed, blown shock, and the list goes on.
I rented a Ford Fusion last year for week---a very nice car.
Rented Dodge Journey this year for week---I would not take it if it were free. Same company that built Yugo must have designed and built Journey.

I also had two Tacoma's. First one A\C shot after 1500 miles. 2nd Front end shot after 12k miles.
