Fedex is on a roll lately -- late deliveries

I just saw that the USPS is announcing they are going from a 3 day first class mail delivery time to 5 days. The west coast will see as much as 40% average increases.

It feels like we're going back to the 1970s in every single way... except for popular music. I wouldn't mind that as much.

Back in the 70’s the mail was delivered six days a week. We could count on the mailman coming by pretty much the same time every day walking with his big bag. I can’t remember when that started to change.

Back in the 70's they didn't use a lot of air freight to ship first class mail from coast to coast so delivery times tended to be longer. The main change the USPS is making now is switching back to trucking mail across the country to save money, so that's where my 70's comparison came from.

Most people get a instant notification on their smart device that the package was delivered. No need to knock or ring the doorbell anymore.
There are many, many people who don't use smartphones, and who don't spend a lot of time in front of their computer.

In order to receive notifications, I believe the recipient has to sign up for and request the service. I know quite a few people who are not very computer literate, and they are unfamiliar with such features.

Your comment of "most people" addresses the fact that "some people" don't. Also, in order to get instant notification your phone must be on and you need to be close to it (in order to see/hear the notification.

Sorry, IMO your position does not excuse poor service and respect for the needs of the customer.

I don’t sign up for anything. The places I buy from send emails with links that take me directly to whoever is shipping. I can watch the progress from there.

Well, why would my phone be off? My iPhone is with me all the time.

The trend is and has been for quite some time to go with a mobile phone versus a landline. In fact the phone companies are getting out of the landline business. You can get a smartphone plan cheaper per month. Around two years ago ATT notified people in my region that they were getting out of the landline business. A couple of people I knew now use smartphones. Much cheaper and also a lot more handy.

You have a myopic perspective. There are many people who don't or can't use many aspects of modern technology. Seniors, people with disabilities, poorer people, or people who live in areas with poor or nonexistant service.

You are absolutely correct that many people have and use these features, but there are still quite a few that don't or can't.

What's the BFD about knocking on the door or inging a bell. Heck, the delivery person is standing right there when delivering the package.

Your comments are just a poor excuse for declining service.

Knocking on the door would defeat the whole purpose of slinging the package at the porch from 10 feet away, LOL.

I remember when this song came out.

Why should they have have to keep checking if you are home? Be it a machine, or constantly looking out the window. That's ridiculous. Some places can have a delivery window that can last all day long. People today have their heads buried in those things too much already. Many to the point they don't have a clue what's going on around them.

Not to mention in many urban areas, packages are stolen in almost no time if they're left sitting. Package theft is at an all time high. A simple press of the doorbell would alert anyone in the home it has arrived. And they can have it safely inside the home in seconds. How difficult is it to press a button when you're standing right next to it anyway? It's just plain stupid not to. And if they're that worried about Covid, they better find another job.

Shel B is correct. You're just making excuses for their lousy service.

I ordered something on Amazon and it shows it was shipped out to Fedex on friday. It should arrive between Oct 7th to 13th. Okay so it could arrive this Thursday or the following Wednesday. So in other words......it could take one week or two weeks to get it.

My FedEx hub in Bellmawr, NJ 08081 is a cluster F$ck.
As far as I know they are independently operated much like or as a franchise.
I speak with the drivers who deliver my goods and they routinely speak of chaos and
low morale within the company.
It is a failing enterprise.

Fedex/etc would have to get out and walk 50 feet to my door. I can see how that would add up over the course of a day. No porch pirates around here, am ok with drop and go.

Plus the doorbell or just knocking would set off our psycho dog. No thanks, I listen too much to that creature.

When my shipping notification tells me that FedEx will deliver my package, I know I'm in for an adventure. I've had FedEx "deliver" a package by dropping it on the sidewalk in front of my building. More than once they claimed there was no one to receive the package which is odd because there's a concierge in the lobby all day, and she has a perfect view of the front door and entrance area. Many times a delivery has been scheduled for a particular day and the package doesn't arrive but will be delivered a day or two later. And even though I'm signed up to receive email and text notifications, just as often as not I don't get them.

I know a few people that work for FedEx in TN. and they can work as many hours as they want because they have no workers. The go getters are raking in the $$$

Crazy manipulation going on everywhere.
It's not so much a matter of purposeful manipulation (beyond Covid restrictions), but disruptions in the supply chain in all sorts of ways which reduce the availability of goods. Not to mention the massive increase in the government's printing of money.

I saw an article somewhere recently saying FedEx has had massive turnover in workers since Covid started. Like more than half.
