Here is a UOA of the factory fill on my new 2006 MINI Cooper S. I broke it in as the manual instructs, keeping it below 4,500 rpm for 1,250 miles. After that, it's mixed freeway/city/mountain driving.

MINI calls for synthetic oil, changed when the on-board computer instructs (typically 10,000 to 15,000 miles). I wasn't too keen on that interval for a brand-new engine.

I re-filled the engine with German Castrol 0W-30 (Gold) and replaced the filter with a new MINI element.

Blackstone noted slightly low viscosity but they are not concerned due to no fuel contamination. They did not find silicon or wear metals unusual for a new engine.

My current plan is to do one more oil change between now and the 10,000+ service (which will be done at the dealer for free).

Excellent choice in getting the factory oil out now, mph.

Plenty of moly in that mix, very likely from assembly lube being used when the motor was put together.

Changing the oil again at 5,000 miles is warranted. Do your transmission and diff (if applicable) at that same time, as well.

Your engine is breaking in nicely. You'll probably continue to see somewhat elevated wear metals for the next 20,000 miles, so don't be concerned.

Excellent choice??? Theres barely any wear on that oil at all.

Don't bother with another oil change till at least 10k (or whatever the warranty requires). This UOA shows you dumped the oil very prematurely.

You wasted some OK oil, but it was thinning prematurely. I wonder what kind of oil?? Is it synthetic?

We are never so sure the Mo is from "assembly lube"

Where is the Na and K coming from? I'd watch it along with the elevated Si. Probably from the new engine, but worth watching.
