Good question... I'm going back to MySpace!

Does anyone remember the proposed merger between Palm, Facebook and MySpace? It was going to be called MyFacePalm, but for some reason it didn't materialize.

Yes, feel free to ask us here at BITOG.
We love to freely give advice... All kindsa advice.

The majority of responses related to FB from this crowd would be "I would never use FB !" and list all sorts of conspiracy theories or complaints about what they see on FB.

What were you going to ask them?

Maybe he should send him a friend request on facebook.

I'm not one to be taken in by conspiracy theories but FB does do some shady crap.. like it was reported that they "read" your messages and harvesting info from it for use by advertisers. I don't know why people assumed it would be private since FBs in the business of selling info... seems logical, albeit shady IMO, that that would include anything you say in a "private" message. You just have to assume everything you say/do on these platforms is being logged... caveat emptor. I don't particularly like FB because they're one of the largest purveyors of fake news which IMO has done a lot of harm to society. You're beginning to see deep fakes on there as well. Since FB is unwilling to police itself, they need to be regulated if ya ask me..

It's not shady when FB tells you they can/will/may do this but people ignore it. Then someone posts that they do this and we see all of that childish "outrage". Don't like it, don't use it. It's quite simple. We literally pay FB for their service (by "selling" or giving them data about us).

Fake news on FB ? Give me a break..... FB is not a news outlet. Users posting so-called "news" doesn't make them one either. If people get their "news" from FB, I feel sorry for them. I also laugh at them.

You obviously don't know how FB or social media works...

- your making commentary on something you appear to know little if anything about. The fact that FB harvests info is hardly breaking news but what the outrage was about was the lack of transparency about it in re private messages. FB, in their ToS, never said they did "read" your private messages but they also never said that they didn't. This is why there was outrage... there was an, what is now a ill advised, inferred expectation that private messages were just that, private. However, as I stated in my previous post..all the outrage aside it really shouldn't have come as a surprise given FBs business model is to harvest and sell your info. FB could have been more transparent on this one issue about them reading your messages. Lacking that transparency, FB wasn't acting ethically IMO.

- every major news outlet has a FB page and they cross post's articles from their own website onto social media platforms like FB or Twitter. True fb doesn't create "news" however, FB acts like an aggregator of news, much in the same way MSN or Yahoo or Google is. If you go to the Google news page you'll see Google pulls, or aggregates, news from all the major news orgs... this is what FB is effectively doing. In most instances clicking on a news link in FB (-or Twitter) takes you to the website for that news outlet.

- the "fake news" is when people, not legit news organizations, create what appears to be "news" articles and post them onto FB. This is the "fake news" I'm referring to..There's zero legitimacy to these post's and because the majority of people are too stupid to discern fact from fiction they believe it. Just because they saw on the Net..

Hope this helps......

MySpace went when it all the rage as well, if you think Facebook will be around forever, you've got no clue how social media evolves.
