Done with ANY selling online!

I got "catfished" last summer, went to look at two used tires sold by a "woman." Was a dude and he had a whole yard full of them. He wanted $50, I offered $40, he refused.

Nine months later, he/she still has them and dropped the price to $40. Instead of hoarding stuff like this you've got to churn, baby, churn! Any reasonable offer should be accepted. I should go offer thirty bucks. :D
$25

I've never had any trouble selling online, FB, Craigslist, whatever.

I'm firmly encamped that you either learn to deal with people early on at some point in your life or you don't. You develop skills to realize things aren't as they should be, someone is lying, etc.

This became VERY, VERY, VERY apparent to me in 2020.... It became very depressing to me how many people in the US were exposed in 2020 as not having those skills.

I've done ok selling & buying on CL but stuff like this keeps me from making a habit of it. Not worth my time for $20. I buy stuff with the plan of using up and throwing out, occasionally I'll give stuff away if I think it has life left. I have zero desire to get into wheeling and dealing.

I sold a bunch of old car parts last year and had the same issues. The scammers become easy to spot and are a problem usually for the first few hours of the ad. I post my ads with a meetup address of the local PD. I think that filters out a few. The scammers are like gnats sometimes.

Usually I just drag stuff to the local auction place, people will buy almost anything except used tires.
If god forbid I do sell something on face book I put a long list of conditions.
I put that I meet face to face only, absolutely no shipping, no checks, no cash app, no venmo, no holds, no delivery under any circumstances. Only acceptable forms of payment are cash grass and @ss.
I guess I'll have to add "no codes" too.

Ive been saying it for awhile but facebook is over run with scammers.
"You calling me a scammer?"

Have a nice Adidas sport bag that I found in the trunk of a car I bought, and listed on FB for $20. Guy says he's nearby so comes to look at it. Older Egyptian guy I guess, driving a RAV4 with handprinted delivery service lettering on the side. Looks at it top to bottom, mumbles something about wear or too old and his son might not like it and asks if that's my last price. I say yes and he leaves. I'm mean, what do you want for twenty bucks? It's a clean USED bag. Spend $50 on a new one then.
Those guys always try to get you to drop the price. Must be a common thing where they grew up.

I've had pretty good success with selling on Craigslist over the years, getting back over $7k for random stuff I would have otherwise just squirreled away or tossed. Most transactions are pretty smooth with a few being more trouble than they are worth.

I made the mistake of listing something for free once, something I was trying to sell unsuccessfully for months for $20 and just I wanted it gone but didn't have the heart to just throw it away since it was 'new'. Not only does that attract the scammers but now also all the flakes that have no vested interest in making a simple plan like 'meet me here at noon and you can have it' because there is no money involved and no feeling of responsibility to even show up. Never again.

Absolutely. I've learned to always ask $5 or something because the word FREE draws out the champions of sucking at life.

Make sure you update your post so it’s local pickup only. I’ve had this before and sometimes Facebook will market the item to people outside your zip code.

This. And turn off comments. FB wants to make every listing a national event open to discussion.

People from the Middle East haggle fiercely. On everything. It's literally part of their culture. He probably would have happily paid $19.98. Just not asking price. Lol

I've read that. Supposedly if you travel overseas and don't haggle, they take it as an insult.

For years, I've read on this site about members who refuse to pay MSRP. They always have to get it for something off sticker. So it's not just a Middle East thing.
