F150 quick struts

I replaced the struts with bilsteins on my 2009 F150 years ago. I had 4 of these spring compressors on there to get the springs pushed down far enough to undo the top nut. All 4 were bent from the tension and none of the safety pins fit around the spring diameter. Super iffy and dangerous.

I installed Monroe Quick Struts on my 2005 F150 2wd several years ago, and 45k miles, both driving and towing. The truck is still riding smooth, no issues.

Also tire size and offset seems to be more significant with inexpensive struts. I was briefly running 1.5" wheel spacers with the aforementioned Moogs on my '07 and it drove like the struts were blown.

I drive a lot of county dirt roads and on potholes or wasboards the front would shudder and walk. I'm also running 285/70/17 (because they were free from my JLUR) and factory steelies (read: heavy) as the truck is an XL

I removed the wheel spacers for other reasons and the front stopped walking.

I wouldn’t want to give up an OE spring for some cheap junk from rock auto, unless the actual OE one is broken.

Take it apart and replace what needs to be replaced.

I say buy oem springs and struts and just piece it together till you get what you need. non oem springs and struts are never up to par.

I’d rather install Chinesium shocks/struts with OE springs than Monroe shocks/struts. That said, I installed some KYB Gas-A-Adjusts on a Ranger, so far, so good.

Could that be because the spacers or offsets that poke the wheels out have more lever arm against the damper? It would make sense.
