Men can be raped and killed too. So gender won't save anyone from potential atrocities committed. I'm reminded of Mogadishu. Or more recently October 7th, 2023 in Israel, which was backed by Iran.

I know of several women who fly fighter jets, and could be in harms way in this conflict. They know full well what the consequences could be of landing in enemy territory.

I knew one SEAL very well who knew the people he was sworn to defend against were often pure evil. An example were the people they were trying to stop when he was killed by putting himself in harms way to try and protect another team member who had been hit. The 'people' they were attempting to stop were strapping bombs to mentally challenged persons, sending those people out into crowded areas, and then setting off the bombs remotely when they reached sufficiently crowded areas...

There is good and evil in this world. For evil to prevail, it requires good men and women doing nothing.

I for one am grateful we didn't sit around and wait for Iran to develop an ICBM that could reach the US homeland, because I believe they absolutely would use it if allowed to attain that capability.
All too true.

I guess you'll a) never neutralize evil here and b) never get rid of people second guessing (as in "how could you let that happen to xxxxxxxx)

Did I see that some Blackhawks got shot down? Were they part of the rescue operation or was that something different?
In other reports total of 9 US aircraft were lost and 20 servicemen. Still not clear if pilot was rescued or not and what carpet bombing of the area where he supposedly hid was about.

Seriously?

The pilot was rescued almost immediately.

The B-1s put down over 80 JDAM to keep the enemy heads down, so they couldn’t look for the WSO.

There were zero personnel losses on this mission.

i thought all of that was pretty clear - even the New York Times got all of that right…

A drop in the bucket compared to previous conflicts. Many lessons learned and blades sharpened from this, from both sides. But it just shows how efficient we are.

What are we up to, like $5 billion in damages? $2B in planes, $1B radar, $2B misc.

Not a bad deal. The ROI on holding back Iran from ICBM'ing anyone in the future is priceless.

What evidence is there that either 1) Iran was anywhere close to developing nuclear weapons or 2) they were close to developing ICBMs? There was an agreement previously to monitor the first, and it seems their best efforts on the 2nd are some inaccurate missiles that can barely reach Diego Garcia. And according to the administration their nuclear program was "obliterated" just a few short months ago? So were they lying then, or lying now using that as a pretext for the current activities?

You post this without mentioning Iran lied. Why?

Iran shot missiles a few weeks ago that reached as far as Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. That's enough range (about 2500 miles) to reach Europe and is considered to be in the intermediate range ballistic class. Iran has been launching multistage rockets that it claims are for a satellite program since as far back as 2017, which the Pentagon has considered as flimsy excuse for an ICBM program.

Pretty sure us civilians won't get the intel/facts for a long time. It's common knowledge they were building a weapon as they were enriching uranium beyond nuclear levels, that my understanding. When you do this, it's for proliferation, which means a nuke time.

With their language of destroying Israel at all costs and death to America, kind of obvious they might actually use it.

Intel is intel and it's secret, even it its fake, too bad, what are we going to do about it anyway. Iran is an existential threat to Israel and despite many not caring for the ME, any country that faces annihilation will defend itself. Pretty sure Mossad knows everything that's going on along with our folks.

There was a cyber mission to overdrive out their air-gapped centrifuge controllers used for enrichment for a reason. Ironically they built back with even more centrifuges supposedly, hence the bunker busters and war.

So having a long range missile, but with poor aim is OK? Iranians are smart and will eventually figure this out. This isn't a NK situation where its only SK, Japan, and the Phillipines to an extent that are at risk. The entirety of Europe is at stake as well.

They aren't doing much about it though, Spain won't share their runways and Nato's strategy here is suspiciously slow. Maybe too much $$$ is going to paying for welfare to replace the voting population to keep the neo-commies in power. Already happened in Spain, they naturalized 500k migrants and gave them the right to vote, essentially handing the country to North Africans. I digress lol.

It wasn't obliterated "enough" maybe? See how missiles are still being launched and one of them precisely hit a drone factory in Israel yesterday? They had 47 years to prepare for today and will fight to the end.

Certainly there are other motivations like arming otherwise stone age rebels with missiles and drones?

Who cares, the regime needs to go, CIA/Mossad brings in new leader. The strait of Hormuz needs to be under saner control, the entire world's economy is at risk.

I hate to tell you this but it's only going to get worse. The ROI is most certainly negative and will be that way for years if not decades to come.
What's the alternative, wait till Iran has a nuke? Kicking the can down the road won't work, action now is the lesser of 2 evils IMHO.

Since we are poking the bear regarding controversial topics: I have great difficulty forming opinions about the current situation based on our 2003 Iraq invasion, which we were lead to believe was due to weapons of mass destruction.
Oil I presume and control by US/IS? Is the US or big oil profiting from oil in Iraq? I genuinely don't know, the place just seems like a mess.

Multiple realities out there from WH/pentagon and other news. Truth lands somewhere between.

Weird thing is, there are people telling us "they aren't even shooting at us" and that we have "Air Dominance and Superiority".
I would say this statement is 100% correct. We have absolute air dominance and superiority unlike any other conflict in history.

Our jet fighters, helicopters, planes as well as Israel’s fly in and out at will. I’m not quite sure there is any other military conflict where that has taken place to this degree but maybe there is.
Evidence was even flying in there to pick up commandos and the second pilot.

Out of 636,000 square miles in Iran there is always going to be a missile battery or RPG that is able to shoot something down.

Iran with something like the fourth largest army in the world. I can’t believe that we haven’t lost more pilots, which goes to show how superior our technology and training of our forces are

There is no controversy as far as Iran, wishing to build nuclear weapons and currently has nuclear weapon grade material.
There isn’t any denying this, and Iran itself admits having a nuclear program.
Also confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency

It’s also well stated by Iran their ultimate purpose to destroy Israel and the United States

In case anybody forgets, Iran is UN acknowledged terrorist country, and why much of the world has sanctions on them.
There is also no denying that they support terrorist organizations all around the world

Although I have radically mixed feelings on the conflict, there is one core issue that stands out.

North Korea and Iran either have or will have long range nukes. The difference is, the North Koreans have no desire to die for martyrdom. This is what sets Iran apart.

The Iranian mentality renders the very effective Cold War MAD strategy between the US and the USSR useless. The MAD strategy is still effective today with respect to Russia, China, the US, and even North Korea. Iran, not so much.

You probably don't know the shia philosophy very well. The martyrdom is for defense, not offense.

In any case, had Iran done what it is accused of, it would have been a deterrent for the current events. The murdered religious leader had prohibited nuclear weapons but I'm afraid the constraint might be gone.
