My wife's commute in her '04 Xj8 is as bad or worse than that - less than 9 miles a day spread over four equal length trips.
The only way I'm comfortable dealing with it is to drain and refill the sump about every six (6) weeks with synthetic 5/30 regardless of mileage. Whenever I find Synthetic 5/30 on closeout I get it, so the cost is actually relatively low.
Pretty wasteful, but I'd rather waste oil than the car
