Ever had anything stolen from your hotel room?

I know about the reverse situation. We interviewed a "physician" from out of the province. He (ahem) removed everything portable from his hotel room: all the towels and face cloths, the small shampoo and lotion set, and even the shampoo and lotion stand. As we had made the arrangement for the hotel room, the hotel asked us to pay all for the missing items. The hotel commented that no-one had ever taken the shampoo and lotion stand before!

Naturally we deducted the hotel's charges from this "physician's" expense cheque.

And no he didn't get the job. After the interview, we weren't convinced he even had a medical degree. He later called to ask if the "unfortunate situation with the hotel" had any bearing on our decision. I've got to admit that call took guts.

When break the seal and I use the tiny soap(s) they get tossed after my stay if I don’t take them along.

Many of the remote parks I visit commonly have no soap, after I go they do (for a short period of time)

The tiny soap if you keep the wax paper is sort of convenient

I had my 2 week old F-150 broken into in yhe parking lot of the Preston Hotel in Nashville by the Airport . I was parked in the handicap spot right in front of the reception door entrance. There was a camera pointing down right at it. Nobody saw anything. The manager said the camera recorder hadn’t work for months. The police told me that it happens almost weekly there.

No but I’ve never been comfortable leaving US Passports in the room, and it’s a PITA to carry them….

A more interesting question: Have videos of a recent hotel stay of yours ever been uploaded to the internet?

That’s awful…sorry to hear….

When staying in a hotel, NEVER leave anything you are unwilling to lose. As my example above notes, hotels can book you out, and the safe opens, your money and gun are gone.
This right here is the true "secret."

But there are always scum that will take anything they think they can peddle for a few bucks. Unfortunately, hotel cleaning staff are usually very low on the pay scale so the opportunity is high.

No problem with taking the soaps and shampoos. I think that's entirely reasonable. There was a group of volunteers in Edmonton that helped low income women look "professional" for job interviews. [Which is a great idea by the way.] Small bottles of hotel shampoo were high on their list of needs.

But taking all the towels and the shampoo bottle stand is going too far.

I’ve never understood why you would want the hotel towels (or anything else in the room honestly)

My own towels, sheets and bed are better.

Stealing crap you don’t need for no other reason than you can is honestly the worst.

I travel a bit for work and ALWAYS take my valuables with me when I leave the room.

I also leave my suitcase opened on table so any potential crooks can easily look through my stuff and not find anything worth value. I do leave a few dollars on desk to see if they disappear.

I always leave the Do Not Disturb hang sign on my door handle.

Yes, Hampton Inn, Savannah, GA, by I-95 and SAV airport. They short-booked me and a number of others. I get back Thursday night and my key won't work. Find someone else in the room. And a bunch of angry folks in the lobby. Everything was stolen from all of us.

One guy could track his Apple devices, which were 100 miles away by then. Cops did nothing, hotel did nothing. But I did get Gulfstream/Flight Safety to remove that hotel from a list of places to stay.

The girl at the front desk was in on it. As were the cleaners. I put all the missing items on my company credit card.

I remember you posted about this a while back.

It’s a disgrace the employees were in on this and were ‘lookouts’ for the thieves working at hotel.

*** Off Topic ***
I was once in a hospital surgery dressing room using the restroom. As I go to wash my hands…… a doctor accidentally left his Rolex on the sink when he washed his hands and forgot about it.

I got the Rolex before it would disappear and turned it in to the Director of Surgery and he got his watch back.

What's your alternative hotel near the Savannah airport?
