Well this go around I'm going to put costal 10w40 synblend just to see how it performs. I may a uoa on it aswell. Supposedly a stock flat tappet 302 doesn't need all that zinc so well see.

I know I get worked up every time the old ZDP and flat tappets gets talked about but I see hundreds if not thousands of these old GM/Ford trucks running around here (farm country) and you can't tell me the majority of them are using anything special, I suppose some of the farmers could be using 5/15w40 HDEO if they're buying in bulk and use it in everything.
Before I knew about zddp that old truck got Castrol GTX 10w40 and what ever filter came with the special. Never bothered it then. That was probably with api sm oil.
Your truck would be perfectly happy with SuperTech syn 5w or 10w-30. Using the 5w-30 syn in my flat tappet F150 that specs for 10w-30 conv. Just picked up 3 jugs for $14.98 each at WM. Ranger, 4Runner and F150, and me, are doing the happy dance.
