True, but GM is expecting to see the API donut and starburst. Neither are on the label of XD-3.

I was in Walmart today and saw their house brand Tech2000 0w30 100% synthetic. I *thought* I saw the starburst and donut on the bottle. Is that likely?

I phoned the Cloverdale location and they told me they don't stock Esso XD-3. They referred me to the Burnaby, BC location.

I ordered a 12 litre case of 0W30. Its also available in 4 litre bottles, 4 to a case. Both products have to be ordered in from Edmonton as they have none in stock and, to date, have had limited demand for it. I told them that might change.

Price quoted is more than what I've read on BITOG - Cdn$4.28/litre plus tax. Will have in stock next Wednesday, ie. 6 days hence.

"Limited demand"...huh..Wal-Mart stocks the XD-3 0w-40 viscosity in this neck of the woods, must be a slight interest in this oil around here if Wal-Mart stocks it on their valuable shelf space

I've even seen this oil in small northern Esso gas stations on my way up to my moose hunting area

Right. I see lots of the XD 0W-40 at my Walmarts. So why dont they stock the Esso 0W-30? Is 0W-40 more popular than 0W-30? I guess it is cheaper as it isnt a full synthetic.

Canadians can get the Esso XD-3 15W40 sold under the President's Choice label for less than $2.90 - although I don't have the exact cost I think it was about $2.25/L.

In Alberta it's $1.98/L, or $1.88/L when you buy 12x1L bottles at a Superstore Wharehouse location (like the one on 111th ave. and 149th street, in Edmonton).

The XD-3 0W40 sold at Wal Mart is a full synthetic, the same as the 0W30 is. The XD-3 15W40 is not a full synthetic. You can get more information on XD-3 on the Imperial Oil website, under Esso, then under Lubricants.

I had mixed up the 15w and the 0W-40 in terms of their synthenecity

But does it make that 0W-40 is more popular than the 0W-30?

I don't know. My Nissan Maximas call for 5W30. I can buy the 0W30 for about Cdn$10 less, including taxes, from the bulk plant than the 0W40 sells for in Wal Mart locally (based on a 4L bottle).

XD3 is a top shelf oil, right up there with the big name brand synthetics, but Esso chose to sell it in a "plain brown wrapper" at a very reasonable price.

And if you can pick it up soon from a Noco outlet you might get some far east electronics thrown in with the sale! I went today with one of my sons and got my case on order of XD 3 0w30 and they threw in 3 mini-radios. But I do hope the oil is of much greater quality than the "MAED IN CHINA" (as seen letter for letter on the box) radio.
