5W-40 is of young lime honey color. As for esters and other exotic ingredients, the company may produce and use them in some products, but if to believe to TotalFinaElf info (number of interviews and internet pages), the company full synthetic oils are (besides Elf competition line):
Total Quartz 9000 0W-40
Elf Excellium OW-40
Fina First 0W-40
It's very likely that the stuff is identical irrespective of a bottle. The oil is mainly Gr.IV based + Gr.V.
No exact info about Total Quatrz Racing 10W-50 ("Activa Competition 10W-50" in France). According to some info it remained a full synthetic oil (85 % PAO + 15 % Esters), to other, the manufacturer has changed its composition. Total page says its a synthetic multigrade instead of a full synthetic oil. Now its flash point is 226 C instead of 240 C in the past. Who knows ? End-users comments were very positive only. Time will show.
