I was SO HAPPY with my wonderful Beloved Bavarian Elixer, but now you parade the Elixer grandiose et Glorieux français de Vie et la Longévité Moteur. You somehow KNEW I minored in French in Université and that I love Vichysoisse even more than gulaschsuppe. Vous êtes un mauvais homme. Ici nous allons encore! Je suis triste!

pbm my good mate. Fortunately the majority of Americans don't think like you. There are so many American tourists in France and particularly in Paris you'd think you were still in the States. And George W Bush doesn't think like you either. I can still picture him a few months back in France for the D-day 60th anniversary praising Jacques Chirac and the close ties that America and France have enjoyed for many decades. Just this week American film maker Steven Spielberg was in France being made a Knight in the French Legion of Honour hailing him as a great filmmaker committted to fighting hatred and intolerance. Oh and Elf are a huge worldwide oil company used by many racers including F1 and World Rally teams worldwide. I'd put money on it that their top oils are some of the best available from anybody anywhere. Have a good one....steve
 
I just noticed on the SXR Evolution 5w-30 jug at the bottom under paragraphs for countries identified as F , GB ,D ,NL , E ,I DK/S ,RUS ,GR

it says

ACEA 2002 : A5/B5 , performance level :
A3/B3/B4 , API : SL/CF

Here in a brochure it says which explains the specs on the 5w-30 . Yep , R&D from F1 racing trickled down to the consumer

Evolution SXR 5w-30 and Evolution SXR 0w-30 bear the IMF Technology label " internal Molecular Friction : technology for reducing internal friction "
This IMF label represents the technical knowhow developed by Elf in Formula 1 for increasing the power output of engines and is used in lubricants sold to the public for reducing fuel consumption
The IMF label is what allows Elf to characterize the Elf evolution Lubricants as oils born in Formula 1

Well if were gonna have ze French sztuff I guess I can post a few Aussie Strine ones for you to work out. "jareedna piper wairtsed abat the bushfires" and another "eiche nardly bleevit". how about "Yagunna goda Mairlben freester" and finally "I was zony sane lar snite". I may soon start a post about Strine and what each word means. Be a mighty big job though.

Elf has been providing fuels and oil to Formula 1 racing teams for decades. Their association with Renault Sport in Formula 1 has resulted in many World Championships.

I think it would be cool to have their products here in North America.

OK, I hate to toss the dark cloak of seriousness over this most entertaining thread, but I've got to respond to this. Pbm, I am a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Marine Corps. I've been a Marine for well over two decades. Unlike so many of my middle-aged friends who look for meaning in their lives, I feel both pride and purpose when I dress for work in the morning. I don't countenance for a moment the politics that encourage or allow a "friendly" country to supply arms to the folks who are killing and wounding my colleagues. But I am equally insistent that Americans stand up for and retain our American way of treating fellow human beings, even during these most trying times. Since when do we make a practice of judging people by the land in which they were born or perhaps the sound of their family name??? The prevailing wind of French politics may not be to your liking (it's not to mine), but making judgments like this isn't very helpful, for any number of reasons, not the least of which is that it lowers you to near the level of those you seem to despise. In addition, while I don't know this company, it might just be that they are an outfit run by folks who, despite being "French," are actually sympathetic to us and our cause.

It's your money, spend it how you want. But you know, it's pretty discouraging to be defending this country and at the same time, see that we are devolving to the point where we judge people an products in this way. Would you hire someone named "Forrest" over a better-qualified "DuBois" because of the origin of their surname? As we debate this, we are immersed in a life-and-death struggle with a bunch of barbarians who want to kill you and me for one reason: we are Americans. They don't know you or me or anything about us other than that we are American. Aren't we better than people like this? I really hope so. C'mon folks, think about what it is we're fighting for!

I spoke with Laurant today. He said they have been in the U.S. for awhile but only selling industrial lubricants. He said due to the demand for European spec'd oils, they have decided to enter the market. They are working on expanding their distribution centers nationwide. He said he doesn't want to sell it at the Walmart level.
